House | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
A beautiful, Chalet constructed with solid beams and chunky timber which gives the impression that it has just evolved from the trees that surround it!
The owners have lovingly renovated their dream Chalet "Base Camp". The large living area and kitchen/dining room with its interesting and original beams and architecture give the chalet its quirky character.
The living room features a substantial rock-faced fireplace and overstuffed sofas so you can relax after your day on the slopes/sightseeing. Also we now have a fantastic NEW heat pump which seems to warm the place up literally within minutes!!
We also have free WIFI, a computer and a home phone for local calls.
Base Camp is only a short walk to the center of the village, but is situated in a beautifully quiet and tranquil location. If you listen very carefully you can even hear the odd kiwi at night.

The South Island region
Arthurs Pass is a unique village in the Southern Alps of New Zealand with beautiful mountain views, crystal clear rivers and the freshest cleanest air you can find anywhere on the planet.
It is home to the native kea, kiwi and many other native birds like bellbirds and Tuis, The small community of Arthrus Pass cares very much for its environment and are doing all they can to protect the kiwi and other native birds and also the native flora and fauna.
There are many walks and tramps in the area one of which has opened just this year (2014) and is proving to be one of the great New Zealand day walks. The walks range from being suitable for people of most ages and fitness levels to the much more challenging mountain climbs, some multi day others very rough and steep or both!
Arthurs Pass is really the only real Alpine village in New Zealand and is a popular tourist destination especially if you're traveling from the East Coast or Christchurch, to the beautiful expanse of the West Coast - .Hokitika, Haast Pass, Fox Glacier and Franz Joseph Glaciers etc.
The road from Christchurch through Arthurs Pass and on to the West Coast of New Zealand is known as The Great Alpine Highway. You will travel through the beautiful Canterbury plains, up Porters Pass and via 5 ski fields and beautiful crystal clear lakes on through to the luxuriant beech forest clad mountains of Arthurs Pass, National Park , down the spectacularly steep Otira Gorge and on to the beautiful rainforest of the West Coast.
Whether you travel by car or take the Trans Alpine Express which is a world class rail journey you'll find it a unique awe inspiring and memorable destination.
