The Old Stables is a newly converted detached ironstone cottage based on a farm in the small quiet village of Swerford in rural Oxfordshire on the edge of the Cotswolds. The cottage itself was previously an old stable block and has been designed as a luxury getaway with its own private hot tub, sun terrace and garden overlooking paddocks, fields and our duck pond. It has a comfortable Hypnos bed for a good night's sleep, a small but well equipped kitchen in the open plan lounge / kitchen / diner and underfloor heating throughout with a woodburner for chilly days. The cottage is perfect for couples who want a relaxing break or enjoy walking and the countryside and can also accomodate a baby of cot sleeping age.

It is also a perfect base to visit Oxford or Stratford on Avon both about 40 minutes drive away, Woodstock and beautiful Blenheim Palace only 20 minutes drive and plenty of other pretty towns, villages and attractions such as National Trust properties nearby.

The farm has its own farm shop selling a range of homemade meals and produce which is open to the public weekends and bank holidays. Guests in the Old Stables are welcome to use the shop throughout the week as well for freshly baked bread and morning pastries, free range eggs from our own hens plus anything else you may need.

We also have our own herd of alpacas, donkeys, a pony and a small group of Golden Guernsey goats which are a UK rare breed.

The Central England/Cotswolds region

Swerford is a small village of mainly ironstone cottages on the edge of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds.

It is perfectly located for sightseeing being only 40 minutes drive from either Oxford or Stratford on Avon both of which have numerous places of interest to visit. Slightly closer is Woodstock and Blenheim Palace plus there are many other attractions including several National Trust properties within easy driving distance.

The village was mentioned in the Domesday book and has a pretty church which was originally founded in the 13th century behind which is a Motte and Bailey whcih is believed to pre-date the church.

The area is great for walkers with several footpaths around the village. The nearest pub is about a 15 minute walk away.

Close to Swerford is the village of Hook Norton which has a Victorian brewery which is worth a visit. They have an interesting visitor centre and tours and tastings are available. There are also several pubs which serve food and it only takes about 5 minutes to drive there or is a nice walk if you prefer. Also very close by are the Rollright Stones which are believed to predate Stonehenge.

Our nearest town is Chipping Norton which has some useful shops, antique centres and its own theatre. There are also several bars, cafes and restaurants.

Many of the local towns and villages have markets some of which sell general goods and some of which are farmers markets. The cottage includes a list of what's on where.
