Entirely owner managed, maintained and loved, Sansome House Cottage lies in the courtyard of Sansome House, a very attractive peaceful setting on the edge of Ilmington, one of the prettiest villages in the Cotswolds. Converted from 18th Century farm buildings, refurbished and modernised, it offers a home away from home. Ideal for a romantic break, a family holiday, couples, walkers (fabulous walks!), cyclists, or just for those wanting to relax together in comfortable & roomy surroundings. Unsuitable for pets & under 5's.

This centrally heated cottage with open log fire has a cosy & comfortable sitting room. The large sunny kitchen/dining room is extremely well-equipped & leads to a small private garden. There is a shower room downstairs and a bathroom with bath upstairs. The main bedroom with dressing room off has a King bed made up as 'Austrian twins' with separate mattresses & duvets on the one frame so suitable for very close friends as well as couples .The twin bedroom has singles which are longer than standard (200 cm long mattresses)

The cottage combines the traditional with modern comforts & is ultra clean. You will find freshly picked flowers in nearly every room. The cottage is perfect as a base for exploring the wonderful Cotswold countryside on the doorstep, by car, on foot, or by bike. We look forward to welcoming you & doing everything we can to make your stay a memorable one. The cottage welcomes non-smokers and children over 5. My Sansome Cottage "Whats On" gives comprehensive details about activities and events in the area throughout the year.

Entrance hall with staircase to 1st floor. This is quite steep and is unsuitable for those who have difficulty on stairs and just one of many reasons we do not accept under fives although well behaved children over five are welcome. Cloakroom with shower. (recently remodelled). The sunny kitchen is unusually well equipped for a holiday let. There are 4 types of coffee maker -electric drip filter, French press, Nespresso machine and hob top espresso maker. We leave basic starter amounts of stores such as salt sugar, oil, tea, coffee etc. so you don't have to rush to the shop as soon as you arrive. Also small supplies of loo paper, kitchen foil, w.up liquid etc. Patio doors to enclosed garden with table, chairs, BBQ. Seasonal herbs in the garden for the cook, who also has a small flat screen TV to watch in the kitchen.

Drawing room: An attractive room, getting afternoon sun, with stripped floorboards and antique Persian rugs. Two comfortable sofas and an easy chair. Freesat (not cable) 43" HDTV/selection of books/maps/guides/board games /puzzles to borrow. WIFI access is FOC.

Upstairs: two bedrooms with bathroom in between. Bath, loo and handbasin (no shower). Principal bedroom has small flat screen TV and a small dressing room off with basin.

Exterior Details: You drive into an enclosed courtyard (CCTV protected) and park your car right outside your front door. The other buildings around are our garages and outhouses. The cottage garage houses the ping pong, tumble drier, barbeque and extra fridge freezer if required. There is room for safe bicycle storage and you can charge your e-bike there.

The house garden is a haven for wildlife so full of birdsong and you may see our pheasant, deer, badgers, foxes, squirrels, a hedgehog or Mr Mole. Your own garden is small and very private. The situation is very quiet and peaceful, save for the church bell practice on Wednesdays or the children playing outside at the school up the road in Back Street, in term time and of course the odd mower in summer. The hill above the village is the highest point in Warwickshire and there is wonderful walking country all around, the whole area being criss crossed with walking and bridle paths; you can wander through open fields, along escarpments and through wooded areas or just meander on the many village footpaths. A little stream trickles through the village and a mini-waterfall cascades from the restored medieval fish ponds which are owned by the manor house.

The cottage is 4 minutes walk from 2 good dining pubs serving lunch and dinner,The Red Lion & The Howard Arms- Bronze award in Pub of the Year for England amongst the accolades. The excellent village shop on the Upper Green, sells fresh fruit and vegetables, locally sourced meat, bread from a local bakery. A cafe is attached. More grocery shops are 5-10 mins drive - Chipping Campden or Shipston, Waitrose supermarket is only 10 minutes away. There is a Sports Club in Ilmington and a leisure centre 5 minutes drive away. Cycle & walk guides available..

Interaction with guest

A tea tray is left to welcome you and a few other treats along with a small box of logs should you want to curl up on the sofa with a book in front of an open fire. We live in the big house the other side of the courtyard (separated by a lawn and tree) and are available for help and advice, in person or online, most of the time.We aim to provide a place which is as if you are house guests at a little country house and everything has been left ready for you, including freshly picked flowers. We always make cleaning a high priority and use hospital grade sanitiser. There is a CCTV camera in the courtyard for the security of the house, cottage and outbuildings.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. You just caught the very last of our raspberries. But there is always jam! We are lucky to have such a great pub within staggering distance. We hope to see you again in the future.

Owner's reply:
I was really pleased to get this lovely review (thank you Gill!) and I am so glad these guests had a good time and good weather in Ilmington and around. They were a pleasure to have to stay. I never run out of different ways to walk in the Cotswolds, mostly around Ilmington, whether it be in sun or snow.

Cosy and comfortable cottage, a perfect base to explore the Cotswolds

Owner's reply:
It was lovely to have these guests stay as they threw themselves into everything despite pretty horrible weather and really took advantage of being in the centre of our interesting area, not to mention visiting a few of the many fabulous eating establishments around here. I would love to welcome them back at a time they can enjoy more of the outside and the general 'greeness' and floweriness of the Cotswolds.
