The North Cotswolds is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with rolling hills and many beautiful little villages to wander around and explore. Broadway and Chipping Campden are nearby with easy access to Stow on the Wold and Bourton on the Water.
Also, only a short drive away, are Shakespeare's Stratford upon Avon, Warwick Castle and Blenheim Palace.
There are many gardens to visit in the area including Hidcote Gardens, owned by the National Trust.
The Chipping Campden area
Broad Campden is a quiet, unspoilt Cotswold village with a pub serving real ale and good, reasonably priced, meals. One of the most exquisite villages in the Cotswolds with many of the old houses and cottages having thatched roofs. St Michael and All Angels is the small parish church with a circular tower, an unusual sight in this part of England. The 17th century Quaker Friends Meeting House is the oldest in the country still in use.
Chipping Campden is just 1.5km by road or across the fields. This small town was built largely by medieval merchants from wealth gained from the wool trade. When arriving from the A44 there is an outstanding view and, as the town is approached, many thatched cottages. One of the most charming and unspoilt of the Cotswold towns, it is often described as having the most perfect High Street in England, with it’s beautiful honey coloured stone buildings dating from the 14th to the 17th centuries. The Market Hall (now in the care of the National Trust) is an imposing open sided stone arched building, erected in 1627 to provide shelter for the local produce market.
Visitors are welcome in the Old Silk Mill and the workshop of Harts (Gold and Silversmiths) who are descendants of C R Ashbee’s Guild.
There is a wide range of interesting small shops and a large variety of good restaurants, hotels and pubs offering both traditional English and international cuisine.
For those keen on walking there are many public footpaths including the Cotswold Way which starts in Chipping Campden and goes to Bath.
For those keen on gardens, the Ernest Wilson Memorial Garden in Campden is open 7 days a week with free entry. Only two miles away is Hidcote Garden, owned by the National Trust and world renowned. Situated nearly opposite Hidcote is Kiftsgate Garden which is well worth a visit.

The Stables is a delight and has every amenity including wonderfully comfortable bedrooms, a fabulous spacious kitchen and ample living space for six adults. It also features a secluded and lovely English country garden. It was a delight to return to after a day touring the beautiful countryside of the Cotswolds. We are returning again next year and love the house so much that we are booking well in advance in order to ensure we don't miss the opportunity of another relaxing vacation at the Stables. Response: Many thanks and we look forward to welcoming you back again. |
