The Central England/Cotswolds region

Mickleton is the northern most village in Gloucestershire and The Cotswolds and lies close to the county border with Worcestershire and Warwickshire. Located 8 miles south of Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon, at the western edge of the Cotswold escarpment, Mickleton is noted for its market gardening and vegetable growing. Young plants, seed plugs, apples, cauliflowers and asparagus, or gras, are grown and sold locally.

The popular Cotswold market town of Chipping Campden lies 3 miles to the south. The Cotswold Olimpick games is held on Dover's Hill in Campden every year on a Friday at the end of May or beginning of June and attracts thousands of visitors. The following day see's the annual Scuttlebrook Wake take over the town where a popular fancy dress parade supports the May Queen and her attendants, being pulled into town by the local morris men.

Stratford Upon Avon requires no introduction and this popular town is only a 20 minute drive away.

Chipping Campden

The village is well represented with businesses. There are two old pubs, The King's Arms which serves tasty food and hosts many events including beer festivals and music. The Butcher's Arms serves reasonably priced food in a traditional pub setting and has its own skittle ally on site.

The Three Ways House Hotel, home to the famous 'Pudding Club', is around the corner from the cottage. Every Friday evening, national and international visitors come to the village of Mickleton to experience the slightly eccentric institution, that is The Pudding Club. Guests at Pudding Club meetings enjoy an evening's entertainment, starting with an introduction by The Pudding Master at 7.30 pm through to a light main course followed by the the Parade of Seven Puddings, inclusive of noise and ceremony, to the vote for best pudding of the night over coffee. Guests depart at about 10.30/11pm with their certificates in hand!

A shop serving newspapers & provisions, a butchers, a post office with fruit & veg shop attached, a garage serving petrol, an antiques barn and a farm shop

The Heart of England Way runs through the village. Local market towns and villages include Broadway, Chipping Campden, Stratford-upon-Avon, Moreton In Marsh and Evesham. Regular buses run to the nearest towns.

Both Hidcote Manor Gardens and Kiftsgate Court Gardens are located nearby and are a must visit if you're into your gardening! They are both close to the cottage to either drive (under 5 minutes) or walk (at least 30/40 minutes) up the scarp of the Cotswold Hills.

"Dara Cottage was a really beautiful and peaceful place to stay in!"

Dara Cottage was a really beautiful and peaceful place to stay in. The garden with the colourful flowers is nice to sit in, and the house is nearby the shops and Hidcote gardens. Many greetings from M… More
