The Central England/Cotswolds region
Chipping Campden nestles in a valley in the North Cotswolds whose rolling hills and picturesque villages form a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Chipping Campden has been described as having the most perfect High Street in England. The honey coloured stone buildings were built mainly by wealthy medieval wool merchants between the 14th and 17th centuries. From thatched cottages to elegant town houses, from the grand wool church of St James to the imposing, open-sided Market Hall erected in 1627, Chipping Campden is a constant delight.
Stroll along the High Street and you will find all you need during your stay - a French bakery, delicatessen, newsagent, wine merchant, local greengrocer, butcher, a small supermarket and chemist. Or visit the descendents of Ashbee's Guild of Handircrafts in the Old Silk Mill or view their history in the Court Barn Museum. Spend a quiet time in the Ernest Wilson Garden which is open 7 days a week and free of charge.
Chipping Campden offers you a perfect base to explore the famous and charming Cotswold villages. Footpaths abound, whilst Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water are only a short drive away. Shakespeare's Stratford upon Avon, Warwick Castle and Blenheim Palace are within easy reach and, for garden enthusiasts, the renowned Hidcote Gardens is just one of several local attractions.
