enthusiasts have lots of places to visit around the area – just a 5 minute drive is Bowood House and Gardens, family home to the Marquis and Marchioness of
Lansdowne and was built during the 18th Century. This truly is a great
day out with all the family, with stunning gardens to explore, one of the UK’s
best adventure playgrounds, a Championship golf course, luxury spa, exquisite
restaurant and a house full of history including Dr Priestley’s Laboratory
where oxygen was first discovered. Bowood also boast multiple restaurants and bars so
whether you are looking for high end in the 2 AA Rosette Shelburne

The pretty village of Avebury, was the proud host in the 1930’s to the excavations of archaeologist Alexander
Keiller. Keiller who opened the museum to display his findings in 1938 in the old stable
building of Avebury Manor where he lived. This world-famous stone circle and on-site museum
at the heart of a prehistoric landscape and are only a short drive from The
Bath is only 30
minutes drive away, explore everything this city has to offer! Enjoy a relaxing
day at the Bath Thermal Spa which is home to the only natural hot springs in
Britain! Walk around the Roman baths – set in a huge temple the Romans built
over 2,000 years ago! A great day out for the kids, there are Roman costumed

former Lacock resident, William Henry Fox Talbot, famous for his contributions
to the invention of photography.
