House | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 4
The house is located on Mestouson Attikis street. It was restored carefully, trying, as far as possible, to preserve its architectural features, and to use local materials, such as Thimiana stone, which was used for all the indoor floors.
The stairs had to be entirely replaced, as they were in too bad a condition to be restored. However, the beautiful corner stone was kept. The house is extremely cool, even in the heart of summer, because of the thickness of the walls, to the point it gives the impression of being air-conditionned!
On the first floor, there is a bedroom, a full bathroom, plus an individual toilet. The bedroom is vaulted, like most of the rooms in the village. At its highest point, the vault is 4,5m high. The wood wardrobe was a present from the previous owner, whose father built it for her as a wedding present.
The bathroom is comfortable, with a bathtub, washbasin and toilet, and there is an additional separate toilet next to it.
The house is fully equipped: there are all the towels, beach and bath, one needs, linens, as well as a hairdryer, iron, washing machine etc...
Basically, all the visitor needs to bring is a bathing suit!
The living-room, features a bar, which was imported from Spain, like most of the furniture. It is the perfect place to sip an ouzo while watching the greek news on TV. There is a window which looks out on Mestouson Attikis street, framed by the remnants of two window-seats, where the women used to sit and gossip, while doing their embroidery work. There are plenty of books in the bookshelves, upstairs and in the bedroom. You'll find books on every kind of subject, and several languages, quite a few of them about Greece. Enough to spend a pleasant and quiet evening on the terrace.
The couch is a convertible bed, which can be opened to become either two single beds or a double. It is easy to use and really quite comfortable. In case of unforeseen visits, there is a cot-bed, which is folded away in a red bag. .
The terrace is really the most pleasant place in the house to spend the day. The back wall is the one that was restored most carefully: you can clearly see some of the sometimes ecclectic materials that were used to build it. There is a table and some director's chairs, to help you spend a pleasant evening. However, the most agreeable feature of the terrace is the open-air shower, with warm and cold water. There is nothing as pleasurable as to come back from a day at the beach, full of sand and salt, and to shower outside, and then let yourself dry in the setting sun.
The evenings on the terrace are wonderful. It is totally isolated and quiet, yet you can still hear the rumour of the village, the sound of laughter, a dog barking, a goat's bell, the cackle of a hen.
Chios is an island in the North Aegean. Just off the coast of Turkey, a 30 minutes flight from Athens, Chios is a haven of peace and beauty.
The island is divided into three regions. The North, a place of rugged beauty and mountains, the Center, where the capital is located, with its gorgeous mansions ensconsed in fragant gardens of mandarine and citrus trees, and, finally, the South, home of the famous mastic villages
Chios is known throughout the world for this unique product, mastic: the sap of the mastic tree. The south area of the island of Chios is the only place in the world where the tree produces this sap. The villages where it is grown and harvested, are quite remarkable architecturally. Built and fortified during the Middle ages, they differ from the traditional Greek island architecture.
The village of Mesta is probably the one where the initial plan and architecture have been preserved the best.
