The Loire Valley / Indre-et-Loire region
The nearest airport is Tours and the nearest town is Chinon within walking distance.
The chateau is within sight of one of the best known small towns in France. Chinon, the town of Rabelais, symbolises all the douceur de vivre of the Loire valley. The forest contains thousands of trees, a glade of lily of the valley, a lot of mushrooms and a herd of wild deer. Before the park was fenced, the deer used to come down to drink at the swimming pool. There are paths through the forest to the old stone village of La Roche Clermault, on the far side of the ridge.
Chinon area
Villages around Chinon (such as Carvant les Coteaux) produce some of the finest wine on the Loire; the local markets sell fruit and vegetables grown on the rich silt of the valley, the 'garden of France'; the traiteurs, bouchers, boulangers and patisseries are Paris standard at half Paris prices; and there are six Michelin recommended restaurants, including the three-fork one-toque Au Plaisir Gourmand (Rigolet).
There are green valleys as unspoilt as the lower Vienne; white tuffeau villages glistening in the sun; chateaux as lovely as Usse and Azay-le-Rideau; immense abbeys like Fontevraud, the burial place of two kings of England; and spectacular drives along the dykes lining the Loire.
Saumur (thirty minutes) is the old headquarters of the French cavalry and retains the Cadre Noir, the French equivalent of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. Tours (fifty minutes) has branches of the Paris department stores, an entire quartier of antiquaires, a Grand Theatre with a good opera season and even an English bookshop.

Further details indoors: You enter the castle via a classical French kitchen, with hand painted cupboards and a grand fireplace which is the heart of the house.
Through the corridor are two grand reception rooms and the romantic sweeping staircase. This is where the main front door can be found with the original opening glass windows and decorative ironwork. There is also a cloakroom has recently been renovated in a contemporary style.
The chateau also has a network of caves, one of which has the original wine press in, along with wine stores.
On the first floor is the newly renovated family wing where you will discover two twin bedrooms and a playroom/double bedroom. Separate to this area is the master suite with shower room. On the second floor the two turreted double bedrooms can be found, along with two other double bedrooms.
The chateau boasts many original architectural features, for example gilded ceilings, ornate cornicing and architraves, low level wooden panelling, parquet floors and marble fireplaces.
Further details outdoors: Outside the peace, quiet and tranquility that surrounds the chateau is felt as soon as you enter the grounds via the tree lined road. The magical English gardens contrast against the French Chateau seamlessly. The chateau is nestled within a miniature country estate with 12 acres of parkland, woodland, walled vegetable garden and an orchard.
The landscaped flower gardens surround the chateau. The vegetable garden is walled on two sides and contains a small stone nineteenth-century hen house. The heated swimming pool is sited to catch the sun and is protected by a high hedge. The pool has Roman steps, a pool house and a large paved terrace.
Under a canopy of trees a child's swing set and slide can be found. This is great during the summer as it provides a shady spot for them to play. At the front of the castle is a patch of lawn, although not without its bumps and the occasional mole hill, is a great place to set up the croquet set.
