About this location
The Andalucia region
Cadiz - (30 min)
What a lovely surprise this old town is. Parks with parrots flying freely overhead, a stunning beach some fantastic architecture and the city walls to name but a few of the attractions this city has to offer the tourist.
If you're a fan of cathedrals this one's worth a visit with some stunning views from the bell tower.
Vejer de la frontera - (30 min)
The drive up to Vejer is not for the faint hearted!
When you do navigate the 1:10 twisting mountain road you will be greeted by another typical 'pueblo blanco' (white village). Old castle walls form part of the newer houses with steep streets and hidden churches. You could spend a good few hours touring the castle walls and taking in the views out to the coast and the plains inland.
Sevilla - (90min)
Start your journey early to get to Sevilla as quickly as possible there's lots to see!. Park on the outskirts by the park and then enjoy the rest of the day at a leisurely pace touring the sites.
The government palace is an architectural wonder. Sweeping from the south to the north tower and surrounded by a moat the lower level has benches depicting the activities or the main cities of Spain.
The cathedral is massive, the third largest on the planet. The ceilings are intricately carved and the tomb of Christopher Columbus a site to behold.
Tarifa - (90 min)
Well worth the drive to see the kitesurfing capital of spain. Tarfia's beaches are long, wide and sandy but look out for the kites that fly all year round.
The spectacle is quite stunning with the air full of multi coloured kites and the seas teaming with young and old on kite and windsurfing boards.
To access the main kitesurfing and windsurfing beaches turn into the nature park on outskirts of tarifa on the N-340. There are many entrances so don't fret if you miss the first one. Be warned these beaches get busy.
Tarifa is not just an areas for extreme
sports. It has a lovely old town surrounded by castle walls with tightly packed cobbled streets and little tree lined plazas.
As well as being the place where the Atlantic meets the Med Tarfia is also where you can get a fast ferry to Africa. In just 35 minutes you can be in Tanger Morocco.
The price is amazing for a guided tour of the city and that includes the price of the ferry, a guide and lunch!
You can book your excursion on-line via www.frs.es you'll find all the information you need to book your trip including where to park. Note that most car hire companies will not allow you to take your car outside Spain and that includes Gibraltar. Please check with your hirer if in doubt
This area is still unspoiled by mass tourism. Locals only speak Spanish and like the visitors to try and do so too. The beach at la Barrosa is over 6 km long unspoiled, occasionally rough but always beautiful. Costa Sancti Petri offers a gently shelving calmer more family friendly beach.
There are several nature reserves to be visited. Great hiking trails along the coast and horse riding along the beach invite the active tourist to explore he beauty of this area. Of course windsurfing, kiting, sailing, and all water-sports are possible.
