The Andalucia region
The Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light) is a well kept secret that is unspoilt by mass tourism. You will experience a truly authentic Spanish holiday, as this spectacular coastline is a popular destination for mainly Spanish people.
The area is ideal for families who wish to spend their days relaxing on long sandy beaches, and nights in restaurants or tapas bars where children are welcomed. For the more adventurous it offers some of the best conditions in the world for surfing, kite surfing and windsurfing.
The Costa de la Luz is not just a summer destination, it’s a place to visit all year round as there are lots of carnivals and festivals to enjoy, plus many beautiful and historical places that you can also discover at your leisure.
Chiclana (population 53,000) is an old Andalucian town with an interesting history and access to some of the best beaches in all of Spain. It is situated about 25 kms south of Cádiz and about 6 kms from the coast. The terrain is gently rolling and partly wooded inland, whilst pine woods and salt marshes characterise the coastline. A long, sandy beach extends from the point of Sancti Petri right down to the Cape of Trafalgar.
The town has a full range of shops and services as well as bars, restaurants, markets and bodegas. The town centre has the narrow streets and courtyards typical of this region of Spain.
La Barrosa is one of Chiclana's two beaches with 8 kms of fine sand. It is quite low key with a small seafront promenade and one main street which has bars, restaurants and shops. It has the Blue Flag Clean Beaches of Europe Award.
The second beach is at Old Sancti Petri. It has a 2 km of sand and is facing a little island of the same name. Here you will find a fishing port and marina, sailing and windsurfing schools and an abandoned little fishing village.
Further along is Novo Sancti Petri, which is a tourist development of low-rise hotels and holiday accommodation. Novo Sancti Petri has a 36-hole golf course and a riding school.
From Chiclana, it is a short journey to the historic towns of Cadiz, Medina Sidonia and Vejér de la Frontera, and to some beautiful nature parks in the mountains, e.g. Grazalema, Donana and Alcornocales.

"Fantastic Villa, book this & you will not be disappointed."
El Abeto, what a great place to stay. This Villa has just about everything you could want for a fantastic holiday. It has the most comfortable beds I've had on a foreign holiday, an exceptionally well stocked kitchen, a brilliant outdoor BBQ & the pool is the jewel in the crown. It is so long you can have a decent swim up & down or just do what we did & muck about in it!! The free wi-fi is excellent, at times we had 3 ipads, a samsung tablet & a mobile phone using it & it was pretty quick, you can even use it sitting next to the pool!! We traveled to Chiclana to attend a friends wedding in Seville. We are so glad we did because I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have stayed in this area without it, but we will definitely be coming back. Because it's away from the normal touristy areas we saw very few Brits on tour which is always a bonus, but there are plenty of places to eat if you want to go out. As a Lidl & a Mercedona were 5 mins drive away we barbequed quite a bit which works out pretty cheap for a family of five. Oh & a day trip to Seville is a must, it is a beautiful City & will only take you about 75 mins to get there. One last thing, Eileen the housekeeper is excellent. She will meet you in Chiclana & drive you to the Villa so you can find it easily. She looked after us really well & it's clear that she does a thorough job in taking care & cleaning the place. Book this Villa & you will have a great time guaranteed.

"Charming little villa"
My husband and I stayed in El Abeto for a week in May. A stay here was just what we needed. The villa has everything you could need (dishwasher, freeview, pool furniture, a bath etc) - it is a real home away from home. Self catering is very easy because all utensils (and things like oil) are provided). The two best features are the pool (an amazing size) and the location (walled, not overlooked and tucked outside of the town). The villa is very close to a few local supermarkets, a really pretty beach, and salt marshes (great for a Sunday walk). Cadiz is also not far away which has good shopping and tapas bars. The things that made our stay though, were the personal touches. We really appreciated the food on arrival (especially the pink fizz), the mobile with local numbers on and the helpfulness of Mike and Shelley (the caretakers) who helped us find the villa and answered all our questions. We would highly recommend (and would like to go back someday).

My boyfriend and I stayed in El Abeto in August 2011 and had a lovely stay. The villa is very well equipped and the pool is fantastic. We appreciated being provided with food stuff, and some wine, when we arrived very late. It is very quiet and away from the touristy part and a car is a must. Very convenient for trips to Seville, Cadiz and some lovely, white Andalusian villages. Our special thanks go to the charming caretaker, Shelley, who made us feel very welcome and provided useful advice on where to find the best supermarket, restaurant etc. I would highly recommend this villa and we will definitely be going back!

"Lovely villa with great pool"
We had a really lovely 2 weeks in El Abeto - much of the time spent mucking about with 2 small children in the pool. The pool is an unusual L shape, but we really took to it - it allows adults to swim proper lengths but is brilliant for small kids because there's an extensive shallow end and the deep end is narrow, so someone who's just learning to swim like my son can easily get to the side. There's also a really fabulous beach, albeit a bit of a drive away - I'd particularly recommend driving further out beyond Novo Sancti Petri to the stretch beyond that which is emptier and has an excellent beachside restaurant. The only downsides I'd say are firstly that I can't pretend La Chiclana is the most beautiful town in the world - but the villa itself is lovely and the immediate (quite rural) environs quite nice. And there are beautiful local towns to visit - particularly recommend Medina Sidonia and Tarifa. And secondly, that the tap water is a bit brackish, which meant that after 2 weeks it was nice finally to wash the salt off! Incidentally, the charming caretaker was happy to do a spot of babysiitting, which meant that we had a great evening out in Cadiz (about 30 mins drive away).
