Lifeboat View 8 Kingsway
About the home
With extensive sea views, this modern 4 bedroomed refurbished townhouse offers light and airy holiday accommodation. Ideally located opposite the green and overlooking the clean shingle beach, children's playground with skateboard area and BMX track, duck pond and public slipway, the local shops and pub are just a 5 minute walk away.
Accommodation consists of a self contained ground floor flat which would be suitable for persons of impaired mobility (or for a family). This has a double bed and also has a kitchenette, TV, Video, DVD and CD player. There is a furnished children's playroom with games and toys which can be turned into a 5th bedroom using a double sofabed, a shower room with basin and WC and access to the conservatory and the enclosed, sunny garden.
The first floor has a fully equipped kitchen including a double oven, gas hob and microwave. There is a large L-shaped lounge/dining room with a picture window leading onto a furnished balcony with stunning sea views. Both the dining table and the lounge have seating for 10 people. The lounge has a TV, DVD, music system and a surround sound speaker system.
The upper floor has a Master Bedroom with sea views which has a King size 4 poster bed. Also on this floor is a twin bedroom, a bunkroom (beds suitable for adults too) with sea views and a full bathroom with separate shower enclosure.
There is off road parking for 2 cars with plenty of on road parking right outside the house.
A five minute walk will bring you to the local pub and all the shops you could want e.g. bakery, butcher, greengrocer, a very good Fish and Chip Shop and Off Licence. There are also fresh fish shops which sell locally caught fish, crab and lobster. Close by are Pagham Nature Reserve, SSSI, the cathedral city of Chichester with theatre, pedestrianised shopping, leisure centre, Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses, Butlins at Bognor Regis, The South Downs, and Portsmouth with day trips to the Isle of Wight.
The Village itself has many restaurants and pubs, all of which are very acceptable with their individual character. There is also a Health Club with all the attendant facilities available. Selsey is very much an unspoiled village with it's unique community spirit - dogs are welcome almost everywhere and facilities for the elder person are very much catered for. For the younger generation there are clubs (in season) at the Bunns Leisure Centre and at other times close by. Or you could just lie on one of the many beaches!

The South East England / Sussex region

Selsey is situated on the southern most point of the Manhood Peninsular and has an exceptionally sunny climate with a weather system all of its own. Whilst it's cloudy in the next village, Selsey can be sunny. It has a history dating back to pre-Roman times with many sites of archaeological interest including the Roman Palace at Fishbourne, one of the most significant Roman buildings in the country which is just a short drive away.
Pagham and Chichester Harbours are are short distance away and are both Nature Reserves and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Both are Internationally important bird sanctuaries and subsequently are fantastic for bird watching all year round, there are numerous hides and vantage points for the enthusiast or casual observer. Furthermore, the South Downs with their biodiversity are readily accessible. Walking or strolling is available from outside the front door.
Further places of interest are the market town of Chichester with its Roman walls, the historic Portsmouth Dockyard, Petworth House with Southampton, Brighton and London within easy reach not to mention Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses.
The Chichester / Selsey area
East Beach is a working beach with a fishing fleet that lands locally caught fish, lobster and crab every day which is available from one of the many outlets on the beach. Within 5 minutes walk is an extensive children's play area, a duck pond and an array of shops including the best (in our opinion) Fish and Chip Shop on the South Coast. All you could want is there; butcher, fresh bakery, green grocer and off licence with the added bonus of a dive shop offering divers access to the many dive sites close to the coast. Deep sea fishing is also available through the chartered fishing boat "Purdey"'. Further details on request.
The village offers a broad range of shops to suit every taste and dogs are welcome almost everywhere. All the pubs are unique in their atmosphere and a wide range of restaurants make sure you are always spoilt for choice, try Tipsy Teapots for a definite change.
In season, April-October, Bunns Leisure Centre is open with a Fun Fair and restaurants. It also has a swimming pool and health club which are open all year round. Golf is available at the Selsey Golf Club at the entrance to the village as is horse riding at North Common Farm which is enroute to the golf club. Tennis and bowls are provided at the golf club and also at Crablands Tennis and Bowls Club in the village.
Selsey has several events to commend it through the year. There is a festival at the end of the summer, Lifeboat Week which is fantastic and a Christmas light switching on ceremony on with so much free food and drink you have to do it to believe it. There is also a firework celebration. Unfortunately all the dates change so there is no exact calendar to point to. To get up to speed get a free copy of Selsey Life, it has everything in it.

I was surprised to read the other review - we were lucky enough to choose a website which enabled us to book directly with the owners rather than through an agency, and I'd have to say they could not have been more helpful. The booking process went smoothly, the only stipulation was that we rang the neighbour the day before to confirm expected time of arrival to ensure the house was ready - it was. On top of that, as we were arranging the stay as a surprise for a member of our party & do not know the area, the owners were more than happy to answer the very many questions I had, offering excellent suggestions for places to eat (with dogs in tow) amongst other things. With regards to the property itself, it worked extremely well for our needs, was very comfortable & well equipped and is in a lovely seafront location, but not too far to walk to the high street. There's also some great shops just a few minutes walk away.We had a full range of weather while we were there - the view from the living room is fascinating. Who needs a TV when, particularly on a windy day, you can watch the changing skies & the waves crashing against the sea wall! As an aside - if you like your pubs basic but friendly we can strongly recommend the Lifeboat Inn. The landlord has a fishing boat & sells his catch later in the day - the fish & chips were delicious. We had a laugh with the staff & ended up there 3 times in one week! All in all, we were extremely happy with the choice we made, and can not thank the owners enough for the help they offered. |
