Home description
4* and Green Tourism Gold award-winning cottage. Superb setting at Canute Cottages, Cobnor Farm, Chidham, with private water frontage on secluded peninsula in Chichester Harbour AONB. We welcome disabled guests, families (cots, high chairs & toys available) and dinghy sailors (slipway for launching). Environmentally friendly both inside and outside! Play skittles, ping pong etc in our old Sussex barn. An area rich in wildlife…heritage…attractions…space…peace…beauty.
Viking cottage has one twin bedroom, shower room, kitchen /dining/sitting room with a sofa bed + a loft mattress suitable for a teenager. We also have three other 2 bedroom cottages available all with access to a large play barn, field with climbing frame, swings etc, access to a laundry / information room and you can launch a dinghy or canoe from our slipway. Viking Cottage is close to the South Downs for great walking country and cosy pubs, Goodwood for Horse and Motor Racing, award winning West Wittering Beach for bucket and spade days or learning to windsurf etc., and slap bang on the edge of Chichester Harbour, with plenty of space and places to visit and eat out, this is an ideal base from which to to explore.
The interesting cities of Chichester, with its Roman heritage and Portsmouth, with its historic ships are a short drive away.

Further details indoors: Viking Cottage has one twin bedroom, though the beds can be joined. There is a shower room with washbasin and toilet with a "sun pipe" bringing natural light into a windowless bathroom! Well equipped and furnished to a high standard, a home from home. An open plan sitting /dining/kitchen with full height ceiling opening to rafters, comfortably furnished with a sofa bed, additional sofa and table and chairs. Cot and high chair available There is a loft mattress suitable for a teenager - access via vertical ladder! Broadband access and TV/DVD Video etc. Plenty of maps books and guides for bird watchers, walkers and nature lovers. A separate laundry room with washing machines,and space in a freezer with tumble drier, though plenty of outdoor drying space! .
We use eco friendly cleaning products, recycled paper (including toilet paper and kitchen roll) and low energy light bulbs where possible. Currently planning on installing solar water heating panels, we try to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Milkman can deliver fresh milk and produce when ordered in advance. Ask for details
Further details outdoors: Outside seating area in well kept garden / courtyard with BBQ, hardwood table, chairs and sun umbrella. Parking in undercover barn, and additional courtyard parking. Large Sussex barn proving indoor play area with table football, skittles and toys. Games field with swings, climbing frame and goals!.
Recycling area and Green Cone composters - help us to reduce our impact on this wonderful environment. Plenty of space, and access to the harbour via our own slipway, meaning you can bring your dinghy or canoe to explore the harbour. Plenty of dog walks direct from the doorstep See our small flock of Jacob sheep with their black lambs in the Spring. We are active in restoring our wooded areas, and have volunteer working parties helping with hedge laying, tree planting and pond restoration. There is a Solar powered boat locally from which one can view the wildlife of the harbour. You may get a glimpse of the harbour seal colony!

•Deposits All offers of accommodation are subject to availability and no booking can be accepted unless accompanied by a deposit of 25% of the tariff. The deposit is only refundable if the required accommodation is not available.
•Payment The balance of the tariff must be paid 2 months before the date of arrival, with cheques being made payable to Canute Cottages, In the event of the balance not being paid by the due date, we reserve the right to cancel your booking and re-let the cottage. If re-letting cannot be arranged, you will be liable for the payment of the balance.
•Number of Guests per Cottage The maximum number of guests (not counting cots) allowed in each cottage is clearly stated on the tariff particulars and extra guests cannot be accommodated.
•Cancellations It is recommended that visitors take out their own cancellation insurance. An administration fee of £50 will be applicable for all cancellations.
•Arrival and Departure Guests are requested not to arrive before 3 pm at the start of their holiday and to depart before 10 am (10.30 for disabled guests) at the end of their stay. All guests are expected to leave their accommodation clean and tidy when vacating. We may require a deposit cheque at the time of booking, which will be cashed if extra cleaning is required at the end of your stay. (This will always apply to those bringing pets.)
•Breakages The hirer is legally responsible for any damage or breakage. Any breakages must be notified and paid for.
•Smoking We are a non-smoking establishment and ask smokers to smoke outside only.
Conditions
Bed linen and tea towels are included. We do ask you to bring your own towels, or they can be hired at £3 per person. Linen for the sofa bed is extra - £20 per week. There is a charge for bringing your dog - £15 per week, and we also ask for a security deposit when bringing your pet. A cheque for £50, which will be destroyed if there is no damage as a result of visitng with your pet! If launching your dinghy / canoe, we ask for a donation to the wheelchair accessible boat fund at the Cobnor Activities Centre.
