Old Dairy at Canute Cottages
Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Old Dairy is one of a group of 4 single storey cottages located on the Chidham Peninsular on the edge of Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, converted from farm buildings about 15 years ago. Canute Cottages are assessed 4* by Visit Britain / Enjoy England, and have the Green Tourism Gold Award for their environmental credentials. Click on the link to our own website for full details of all the 4 cottages we have available to guests and our special offers on the Home page.
Old Dairy is a sunny 2 bedroom cottage, with an open plan kitchen / dining living room and separate family bathroom with bath and shower over. The cottage is wheelchair accessible and ideal for people with mobility problems.
The properties are grouped around the courtyard, where there is ample parking - some undercover- and a large old Sussex Barn for indoor play/recreation. The barn has skittles, ping pong, table football and games/toys for young children. There is plenty of outdoor space for play, with climbing frame and swings too. We have our own private slipway for launching canoes or sailing dinghies ( up to 16 feet) and a wheelchair accessible footpath around the shore. Great for couples, families, walkers and dog lovers. Close to the cities of Portsmouth and Chichester for museums, theatres, shope and restaurants. The South Downs provide great walking country with some wonderful pubs.

The South East England region
We are located on the South Cost of England, just south of the new South Downs National Park, between the lovely city of Chichester with its Roman Walls, Norman cathedral, Georgian houses, Festival theatre, art galleries, restaurants and a host of independent shops, and the city of Portsmouth with the Historic Dockyard and newly opened spectacular Mary Rose Museum.
The usually mild climate is an added bonus and the nearby beaches at West Wittering and Hayling Island make it an ideal holiday destination for both young families and the active more mature types who like to kitesurf, windsurf, paddleboard or kayak rather than just soak up the sunshine and paddle!
The National Trust properties of Uppark and Petworth House are in easy reach, as is the Roman Palace at Fishbourne, Portchester Castle and the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum. For Horse and Motor Racing fans, we are close to both Fontwell and Goodwood, with the Festival of Speed and Revival meetings being world renowned.
Situated on the Chidham Peninsular, a rich agricultural area that juts out into Chichester Harbour and just down the creek from the historic village of Bosham, where it is said King Canute held back the waves from is throne on the shore! We seem to have our very own micro climate, along this coastal strip before the sweeping South Downs, and it is a very special place of outstanding natural beauty.
Guests have access to our private footpaths down to the shore, and we also have our own slipway for launching canoes and sailing dinghies. There are acres of open space and private woodlands with a fantastic array of wildlife and wildflowers to observe. A shoreline bird hide for watching the huge variety of overwintering sea birds that are attracted to the Harbour,( and seals too) as well as a webcam on the Barn Owl nest box in our Sussex Barn, adjacent to the cottages in the old farm courtyard which have a selection of different bird feeders.
Over 65% of our guests have visited us at least once before, and some have been coming more than once a year for the last dozen years or so, so we must be offering a great package!
