About the home
We have many repeat visitors to this single-storey cottage which offers guests very comfortable and well-equipped accommodation. The private and gated patio garden has outdoor furniture and a charcoal barbeque in the summer.
Guests have the shared use of a large lawned and walled-in garden which is great for children and there's usually badminton on the lawn too in addition to some other garden games.
Lovely walks or bike rides can be taken straight from the cottage door and it's only a short stroll to the village pub (75 yards) Within a mile there is a village shop and tea room and being equidistant, Chichester and Petersfield are about a 15 minute drive. From the mainline railway station at Petersfield you can be at London Waterloo station within 80 minutes. All off road parking and storage available for boats and trailers if required.

Barley Cottage's patio area is a real sun-trap in the afternoon in the summer. Ideal for barbecues! There is also a large lawned and gated garden for guests use which is great for the children to run around in too. For those keen on walking, this is a good area and plenty of great circular walks which could incorporate a country pub or tea-room for refreshments!
Further details
The pool is only for the use of guests residing at the cottage and on our booking form. We regret that visitors are not permitted to use the pool or pool garden at any time. In high summer, the pool times are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
Conditions
The maximum occupancy for the cottage is 4 plus a baby or small child requiring a cot or z-bed.
By prior arrangement only, and at a cost of £15 per week, we do allow one well-behaved dog at Barley Cottage. No puppies though!

The Chichester / West Marden area
The Roman city of Chichester, just a 15 minute drive from West Marden, has a wonderful Norman cathedral and famous Tudor Market Cross. Great shopping, stylish restaurants, pubs and cafes, catering for most tastes.
The internationally acclaimed Chichester Festival theatre stages many different productions. There are galleries and museums and within a few miles, National Trust properties to visit. Fishbourne Roman Palace houses the largest collection of in-situ mosaic floors in Britain. Many of these were laid at the time of the construction of the Palace, around AD75-80.
Around Chichester are some picturesque coastal villages, such as Bosham and Emsworth and the Isle of Wight is just a short ferry trip from Portsmouth. West Marden is just a 20 minute drive from the Cross channel ferry terminal at Portsmouth. The cottage is located in a pretty downland village and benefits from a local pub which is just a short stroll from the property.
