Further details
1. Staff
Lanna Hill house is serviced by between 4 and 6 staff members, depending on guest numbers and the time of the day. Staff are either recruited locally or from disadvantaged hill tribes. They are fully trained and wear beautiful locally inspired uniforms. All staff are paid a fair wage, above the market rate. They also partake in a profit sharing scheme, which allows them to benefit from all food and beverage sales.
2. In house restaurant
Lanna Hill House recognises that food is a very important element of any holiday experience. Our in-house restaurant, exclusively available to guests, has developed a delicious menu with a focus on fresh food and local dishes. Kitchen staff are professionally trained by our manager, an award winning restaurateur, and his wife.
Vegetarian and children’s dishes are available on request. For guests wishing to prepare their own meals, we will be happy to assist with shopping. We also encourage guests to cook with our staff if they so wish. All guests will be asked about food preferences before arrival so our menu can be customized appropriately.
Breakfast comprises a selection of cereals, breads and fresh seasonal fruit. Thai breakfast is available on request. A light lunch menu offers a choice of Thai dishes, salads and sandwiches. Picnics are also available for those who wish to go exploring in the national parks.
A delicious three course meal is served each evening. In the morning guests are asked to select between 4 and 6 dishes, which will then be prepared using fresh ingredients during the day. A typical dinner might include a curry , a fish or prawn dish, one or two vegetables dishes and noodles and rice. Some dishes from our current menu include Red Chilli Seafood Soup, Snapper with Green Mango Sauce, Pork with Lychee Sauce and Roast Chicken with Pomegranate Glaze.
3. Coffee and Tea
thern Thailand is famous for its coffee. Cool mountain slopes are the perfect host to Arabica coffee plants and we exclusively stock northern coffee in our house. Both coffee and tea are available at no extra charge to our guests
A selection of drinks is available from our “trust bar”. We ask all guests about specific drink preferences before arrival, so we can ensure the bar is properly stocked.
4. Housekeeping
Our housekeeping staff will clean the entire house each day. Beds are made up every day and linen changed twice a week.
5. Laundry
An in-house laundry service is available at a nominal rate.
6. Internet and TV
Broadband internet service is available at no charge. Generally this is very reliable, providing a fast broadband service. Wireless connections are available for up to 4 laptops.
Satellite TV is available in both the main living room and kids' play room. A wide selection of channels are available in the English language including five film channels, BBC and CNN news, up to 10 sport channels (all English Premier games are broadcast live) and a host of documentary channels. A small DVD library is available at no charge.
7. Family and nannies
The house is perfectfor families. Most hotels don’t offer the space or privacy coveted by family groups, a problem you will not encounter with Lanna Hill House. Facilities for children include wooden high chairs, a wooden cot, two single beds with protective railings, a play room with multi channel TV and DVD player (also a small selection of toys and books), a kids' pool, table tennis and mountain bikes. The house is located in an area with very little traffic and children will enjoy the opportunity to explore the local area by foot or bicycle.
We will be happy to prepare your child’s favourite meals. We understand that children can have particular eating habits!
One significant benefit for families is the affordability of trained nannies and child minders. We can arrange for as many trained nannies as you like to help you relax and enjoy your stay. For slightly older children, we can arrange for someone to help keep an eye on your children while you relax.
8. Massage and inside track concierge services
One of the joys of Thailand is the ability to experience massage and spa services at a very affordable price. We are able to offer in-house massage (advance booking required) and even some in-house spa services. If you would prefer to use one of the 50-plus spas in Chiang Mai we can make recommendations and assist with bookings.
In addition to our own activities, we can offer advice on tours, shopping, car hire and drivers, and restaurants. Of course the advice is free, but has tremendous value. You will be getting the inside track of what is best to do and see in Chiang Mai. Not what travel agents and guides tell you. This will ensure you get a truly authentic and unique view of Thailand.

The North Thailand / Chiang Mai Province region

Northern Thailand is a truly unique and beautiful region comprising mountains, valleys, a pleasant climate and a rich culture. The people are a delight.
The climate in Chiang Mai is a well kept secret. You are unlikely to find it uncomfortable at anytime during the year apart from perhaps late March through to late April, when temperatures can reach 40c (albeit a very dry heat, that is not altogether unpleasant). Even during the wet season, it usually rains for only an hour every 2 to 3 days. The weather from November to January is usually amazing: No rainfall and rarely over 30c with blue skies on most days.
The geography of the region supports an abundance of national parks which can be visited throughout the year. The weather can be very cool in the parks, even falling below zero on peaks during the winter season.
Northern Thailand was historically known as the kingdom of Lanna. Cities in the region are testament to the history of the region which extends back over 800 years, when towns such as Lampang, Chiang Mai and Lamphun were founded. City walls and temple remains originating from this time can still be seen. The people are very proud of their rich heritage and often regard themselves as being culturally distinct from the rest of Thailand. Their pale skin and soft nature are typical traits of northern people.
The Chiang Mai area
Chiang Mai, is an ideal location to experience northern culture. Markets, great restaurants, hidden coffee shops, music, festivals, national parks and handicrafts are all in abundance. The town is also now recognized as the spa capital of the world. There are many attractions specifically dedicated to tourists including elephant parks (where you can feed baby elephants and watch them paint) and gardens. Our concierge service can give unparalleled advice on all these activities.
Chiang Mai is located on the western side of the Ping River valley. 35km east of Chiang Mai are the eastern mountains where Lanna Hill House is located. Although largely untouched by development, the area still boasts a treasure chest of locations and experiences that will appeal to discerning travelers (See our website community map). There are two national parks, Mae Takrai being right on the door step and Chai Son on the other side of the mountains. They are both perfect to explore either with your own rental car or with a car and driver (we can arrange for car rental and a driver in advance). There are hidden villages where we can arrange for local people to prepare traditional meals, countless waterfalls, hot springs and nature trails. There are many perfect spots for picnics. According to officials the parks still support a tiger population. So watch what’s in your sandwiches!
The magical village of Mae Kampong at 1300m feels more Tibetan than Thai. A mere 25 minute drive away, the village now boasts a high wire jungle tour as well as forest walks, fresh coffee and even traditional Thai massage. Even closer to Lanna Hill House is Muang Cave, Sankampaeng Hot Springs and for those interested in rock climbing, there is Crazy Horse buttress.

This house is set about 50mins outside Chiang Mai town, amongst hills and local villages. You won't see any other tourists and you'll get t meet some lovely local people and experience a bit more of the countryside. It really surpassed everyone's expectations, it catered for all ages, we spanned 18mths to 74 years old and everyone had a fantastic...

Lanna Hill House has so much going for it, making us feel at ease from the first email contact. The house is beautifully designed, impeccably located (close enough to the city to be convenient but remote enough to feel like you're sleeping albeit very comfortably, with nature), great facilities for young families but the really stand-out selling points were the...

We had a fantastic week an Lanna Hill House. Location excellent as only 30 min away from Chaing Mai so all the fun if the city but in a rural location. February 2011
This is my first ever Tripadvisor review. I am usually not wont to doing reviews for two reasons: Most experiences don't usually pass the bar, however favorable, and second, who would write about a treasure found? On our stay this month at Lanna Hill House, though, my family and I felt that the care and pampering we got was way...
