The North Thailand region
Experience the merging of the past into the present on a Chiang Mai holiday. Its rich traditional heritage and unique culture is a perfect foundation to enjoy a memorable stay.
Chiang Mai are great for those looking for holiday, adventure, trek into the mountains and spend your short or long stay with the hill tribes whose way of life remains mainly untouched from modern life. An elephant ride and bamboo rafting make the stay unforgettable.
The road to Hang Dong has numerous outlets mostly specializing in woodcarving - one traditional, named Ban TawaI, this village is the center of Thailand's woodcarving industry and a fine 19th century temple showing the spiritual origins of modern wood- carving-Wat Inthrawat (Wat Ton Khwen)
Built around 1858, the temple served as a resting place for the Phra Boromathat Chom Thong relic when it was brought from Chom Thong to Chiang Mai. This temple is a wonderful example of Lanna wooden architecture of the 19th century. Note the decoration in the viharn and the detail in the cross-shaped hall in the temple courtyard.
In the area of Hang Dong, you still can visit Chiang Mai Night Safari, the world's third nocturnal zoo and is a government nature theme park which was built to promote Chiang Mai tourism. It is considered by many to be the most beautiful Night Safari in the world. Twice the size of the Singapore Night Safari it stands on over 300 acres, just 10km from the centre of Chiang Mai.
Next to Night Safari, you can visit The International Horticultural Exhibition Royal Flora Rajapruek (shortened to Royal Flora) is currently taking place in Chiang Mai. The festival began December 14th and is due to continue until 14th of March. This exhibition is referred to locally as Puet Suan Lok. The last Royal Flora attracted almost 4 million visitors and it seems likely that this year will build on this success. The event was located in 80 hectares of land at the Royal Agricultural Research Center. The 92 days of the expo featured 30 international gardens reflecting nations such as Japan, South Korea, Belgium, Netherlands, South Africa, and Canada; more than 2.5 million trees of 2,200 species of tropical plants and flowers are presented to the world in this exhibition.
This area is also easily to go to Doi Suthep-pui, national park, Chiangmai Zoo, Maesa Elephant Camp. Going to town, takes only 20 minutes by our free shutter service.
