Chester area

The historic City of Chester is situated in the beautiful county of Cheshire - which shares borders with Shropshire, The Wirral, Lancashire and North Wales. Chester is positioned on a sandstone spur on the River Dee.

The City of Chester has a varied and fascinating history and can claim to be the only British city with such well preserved ramparts, there is a two mile walk around the original red sandstone Roman City Walls. The shopping centre of the City boasts its famous two tier shopping rows and has bars and restaurants set into the arched cellars of the buildings.

Wharton Lock Holiday Apartment is a short walk along the canalside path from the city centre of Chester. The canalside walk takes you past The Old Harkers Pub with its Real Ales and Ciders - fantastic to wash down one of their wonderful meals - the sliced roast ham, eggs and chunky chips is not to be missed!

A visit to Chester could include a day out to the world famous Chester Zoo, a boat ride on the River Dee, a meal on the Hotel Canal boat, a walk in the beautiful Grosvenor Park, a picnic in "The Meadows" by the River Dee or simply an icecream while you sit in The Groves, watchingh the ducks and swans play on the river.

Guestbook for "4 Star Gold" Wharton Lock

The accommodation in Chester is excellent, by far the best self-catering accommodation we have ever used. The entry procedure was straight forward, the cleanliness of the apartment was first class ( my wife works for the Marriott hotel and understand fully the standards required so she knows what to look for). The departure procedure was again very straight forward. The location is ideal to access all the sites of Chester and the surrounding area. The standard of furniture and fittings is excellent we normally bring a few home comforts but did not need to use anything of our own. We fully intend to return!

We had a lovely stay in this beautiful apartment, had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. Was great being so close to some wonderful restaurants, everything was within walking distance. We especially enjoyed walking along the canal, watching the boats.

We spent a wonderful week in the very elegant flat. Everything we needed was here all very comfortable and warm (we didn’t even need the heating in October!)

An added bonus was being able to enjoy a glass of wine on the balcony overlooking the canal.
