The Heart of England/Peak District
Catkin Dell is ideally situated for exploring the historic city of Chester and for days out to: North Wales, with its many beautiful beaches, castles and countryside, including Snowdonia.
The isle of Anglesey, currently home to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Wills and Kate!)
Shropshire and The Peak District, magnets for walkers or cyclists.
The Wirral and Liverpool, City of Culture. Take the "Ferry Cross the Mersey" to access the splendid free museums on Liverpool's famous waterfront.
Chester rarely suffers the extremes of bad weather experienced by other parts of the country.
Chester is renowned for its racecourse, the Roodee; its city walls and cathedral; magnificent shopping, especially on the timbered "Rows"; walks by the River on the Groves and of course, its world-famous Zoo.
The village of Waverton is just 3.5 miles from Chester, but has its own post office, supermarket, cafe and nearby pubs offering award-winning food.
The beautiful canal, superb for walks and cycling, goes all the way to Chester. The next village, Christleton, has a sports centre with indoor swimming pool and a wonderful large pond, known locally as The Pit.. Park and Ride buses run from Christleton to Chester; the bus stop for local buses is at the end of Catkin Dell's road.

"Excellent accommodation for anyone with disability needs"
We all had a wonderful stay in a very comfortable and well appointed bungalow, which helped give us a stress free family Christmas, especially as we had to accommodate an ageing parent with a range of physical disabilities. The equipment that Gail and Kevin made available was extremely useful.
Gail and Kevin even put up a Christmas tree and provided decorations which helped to create a pleasant festive atmosphere.
Would definitely come back. Thank you."

"Good location but quality of accommodation is poor."
We stayed at Catkin Dell for three months whilst our property was being renovated. We were very disappointed by the amount of damp in the property and by the owners solution which was simply to give … More
Please compare this review to the others we have received.
My husband and I spent 29 hours over several days restoring Catkin Dell internally to its usual high standard after the stays of this family, mainly on replacement, repair and cleaning (usually, this takes five hours on changeover days, excluding laundry). We will resist listing all the problems and damage caused and will simply address here the claims made.
The agreement with longer term guests is that they, or cleaners they emply, do the cleaning. This is reflected in the reduced price charged. The property is cleaned to "holiday let standard" for their arrival. The bungalow is not damp. Condensation during this family's stay was caused mainly because parts of the bungalow were not cleaned properly or not cleaned at all Failure to clean and clear the wetroom shower outlet caused shower water to drain away only very slowly. Water evaporated and condensed in the window area of the bedroom opposite. The family had placed their own clothes rail packed with clothes (which subsequently collapsed) against the radiator below this window, preventing heat from circulating and making it difficult to access the window for ventilation and maintenance - a daily wipe would have removed the condensation.
We thoroughly cleaned the bungalow ourselves partway through the family's stay, as they vacated it for a few days due to a prior booking for a large group, who stayed very happily at Catkin Dell and left it in great condition. The original family returned and the same problems recurred.
We normally provide one de-humidifier for larger groups of guests who shower in succession then naturally close all windows when they go out for the day. We provided a second de-humidifier to this family for the conservatory and a mini one for the window area mentioned.
Our repeated requests for the family or their staff to clean specific important parts of the bungalow were ignored.
The furniture we provide is good quality and robust - ideal for families, guests with mobility difficulties, wheelchair users and children. The photos we provide are a fair and accurate depiction of the property. This local family visited Catkin Dell twice, once before booking and again before moving in and raised no concerns about the furniture or the condition of the bungalow.
We are proud of Catkin Dell and our standards.

"Fantastic base for Chester"
We had a lovely time in Catkin Dell, everything we needed was provided and the house layout meant that even when the children had taken over the living room (the toys were amazing) there were still areas the adults could chat and relax in. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pots and pans and the condiments were a life saver. the weather was good so we even got to enjoy the beautiful garden. the house was a welcome sight at the end of the day.
We hope to return
Many thanks to Gail and Kevin.

"Catkin Dell was a perfect place for us, we'll be back again!"

"Quiet Location, Plenty of Room"
This bungalow is ideal for those with disabilities, or with young families. There are two bookcases full of games and books for children and adults alike. Although the property is dated, everything is clean and in working order. The owners are both friendly and helpful. The conservatory makes a good second lounge - however it was a little cold to say the least. For those staying at the property with families, a second tv would be useful, as would wi-fi - a must for teenagers in the 21st century! It is is short drive into Chester and there are many attractions nearby, so this made a good location - near enough to not have to travel too far, but far enough away to feel like we were in the country.

"Excellent value, facilities and location for the wheelchair user"
Over many years of holidays with our special needs daughter we have often been disappointed at what some people regard as suitable for wheelchair users, but Kevin and Gail, at Catkin Dell have shown what can be done. It is excellent. As well as the practical aids we appreciated the games, the books and the guide books. We had a fortnight of good weather and were really able to explore the area, which is beautiful and full of interest. It was brilliant to be so near to Chester and Wirral. Some of our favourites visits were Parkgate and West Kirby ( coastal views), Techniquest-( science exhibits) at Wrexham and the nearby Grosvener Garden Centre, Norton Priory,Ellesmere Port's Boat Museum,Blue Planet Aquarium, the excellent traffic free cycle route The Wirral Way,and the Birkenhead Ferry to Liverpool

"A really lovely place to stay, we hope to return."
A perfectly adapted bungalow suitable for any wheelchair user and their family. it is very convienient for Chester and surrounding area and there is a shop nearby (5mins walk) for essential supplies.
The owners are friendly and helpful without being at all intrusive.
The bungalow is clean, roomy and well cared for.
our only dissapointment was that we were unable to fully enjoy the beautiful garden as it rained a good deal during our stay. We'll be back!

"A delightful and comfortable house to use as a base for travelling around the Chester and Mersey area.""
Enjoyed the stay and area. Thanks owners! Recommend visit to Anthony Gormley Statues on beach at Crosby, Chester Sightseeing bus, Imperial Museum and Lowry Gallery at Salford Quays. Cheap good meal at local Harvester. If you like walking, do the 15 mile walk along the canal to Ellesmere Port Waterways Museum.
