"Relaxing, Rejuvenating, Resplendent, River Retreat"
As a family of three currently living in Asia we were looking for a base to reconnect with family and friends, enjoy home cooked food, slow down the pace and savor the scenery. The River House quite simply ticked all those boxes and more. So if you are looking for somewhere ideally located in Chester to enjoy river walks, roman amphitheaters, great restaurants/pubs and quite simply relax then the River House is the place for you. In total we stayed for two weeks and these are a few of our highlights: - Location - The open plan kitchen/diner and cottage garden is fantastic place to spend many hours. - Quality of decoration/finish is a step ahead of many other places that we have rented. - Very well equipped with everything that you could hope for ... a home from home. - Welcome and attentiveness of the owner, special thanks to Melanie. As always there were a few niggles over the course of the two weeks, and to provide a little bit of balance: - The stairs are quite steep and I wouldn't recommend the property to anyone with mobility issues. - All the bathrooms are upstairs. However these are very minor points and I won't hesitate to re-book the next time that we are in the area.
Thank you for you kind words. You're so right, the courtyard garden is lovely at this time of year. We hope to welcome you back again next year to use the River House as your home from home. Thank you for choosing the River House as your base in the UK. Kind regards Melanie

"What a lovely place!"
We stayed at River House over the Bank Holiday an we couldn't get over what a lovely place it is! The location is AMAZING; right on the River Dee with ample parking for our 3 cars and what was even better was we didn't need to use them at all as everything is so close. The accommodation was very cosy with plenty of room for all 5 of us in the huge kitchen and roomy lounge. The heater on the back patio has inspired to buy one too! The bedrooms were well appointed and comfy. We found the information provided about the local sight and eateries very useful and we particularly loved The Architect near the racecourse. We booked the house for a joint 60th birthday and due to a bereavement were hesitant about keeping the booking but we're so glad we did. We'll be back!
I'm so happy that you decided to come to the River House and let the location work its magic on you and your family. I hope to welcome you back again and thank you for looking after the house so beautifully. Kind regards Melanie

"Fabulous House in Fantastic Position"
We hired River House for a long weekend over the May Bank Holiday. What can I say, fabulous house in fantastic position right overlooking the River Dee in Chester, but only minutes walk and you are in the City Centre. Loved the décor and absolutely everything in the kitchen you could wish for - now have kitchen envy and will have to rip mine out ! Everyone in our party really relaxed and enjoyed the break, felt at home straight away and will definitely be back later this year. Only one slight negative as had some older relatives visit, is if you have trouble with stairs. Stairs are quite steep and toilets are all upstairs. That said, only a pointer for the less able, as I would not hesitate to recommend River House. Book it !
Lovely to host you and your friends and discover that you felt so at home. I will update you with available dates for later this year. Thank you for choosing the River House. Kind regards Melanie

An absolutely wonderful house set in beautiful surroundings which is just a stone throw away from Chester Town Centre, the River House was an absolute revelation. Comfortably sleeping six adults, the house has generous proportion rooms decorated to the highest standard and it truly felt that we were in five star luxurious accommodation. What made our visit extra special, however, was the little thoughtful gestures left for us by the owners - simple things like leaving the fridge stocked with milk and condiments, a fresh loaf of bread for breakfast and even a pack of digestives for that ever need cup of tea after a long journey, made our stay even more special. It was a joy to know that a supermarket run was not needed immediately! The owners even went above and beyond to leave a birthday balloon for my mother who was celebrating a special birthday (as she referred to it)! Throughout the booking process, I found the owners to be approachable, friendly and accommodating and was very impressed with the detailed welcome note/instructions that were sent to me well in advance of our stay. The house itself is a mere 5 minute walk into Chester Town Centre, although, with a view facing directly onto the peaceful River Dee, you would never have thought you were so central to everything. We had a fantastic 3 day stay and will definitely be booking The River House again in the future. (PS: The cafe next door serves amazing soups and had us salivating at their homemade cakes. Definitely worth a visit!)
When we set out to create a holiday home from home for guests we were hoping that this is how you would feel about the house. So, thank you so much for your lovely review.

4 of us stayed for a long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The house is lovely and the location is very central. You can easily walk into Chester city centre.
Hello - I was so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and your special celebration. It is a short walk to the very centre of the city which makes it very convenient. It's nice to read that you enjoyed the comfort of the house. Thank you so much for drawing to my attention that the heat was unevenly distributed. I have adjusted the settings of the heating controls and the ground floor is warmer, and nice and toasty. Please get in touch if you would like to come back as we very much appreciate such thoughtful guests, and I will ensure that the House is just right to make your stay delightful. Kind regards Melanie Warburton

"Stunning cottage in the perfect location"
I stayed in Melanie'e stunning cottage with my parents and sister for our annual christmas weekend away. With 6 adults staying in this lovely period cottage there was plenty of space for us all. We arrived to find the heating had already been put on so the place was lovely and warm and Melanie had kindly left us a complimentary bottle of champagne as an apology for building works happening next door. The cottage is decorated and furnished to the highest quality with anything you could possibly need within the kitchen. The lounge has incredible views over the River Dee and is just a 30 second walk from a good pub. Location couldn't be better - we walked around the city walls, down to the racecourse and into the city centre all in under 10 minutes and Melanie had recommended some lovely bars and restaurants for us to sample. She emailed promptly when answering any questions i had and really made our weekend extra special with the finishing touches she placed in the cottage. I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough, luxurious but homely and Melanie was really very helpful.
Thank you so much for your very kind and thoughtful review. I was so happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay so much. The River House is located in such a very special place that it always surprises our first time guests. Although they didnt' disturb you, you'll be pleased to know that our neighbours have finished their building work and their house looks absolutely beautiful. Between guests, the River House is having it's annual lick of paint to make sure we keep up the standards of this beautiful river promenade. Please do get in touch if you would like to come back as you were lovely guests and we'd love to host you again one day. Kind regards Melanie
