Sufficiently off the beaten track, it is the ideal place to enjoy the breathtaking tranquillity of the French countryside. However the nearest local shops are only 10 minutes drive away, and the magnificent lake near St Mathieu is an ideal location for picnics and bathing. For the fishermen among you, we can recommend La Moulin de la Chabroulie. Neil and Brenda can sell you a day ticket for fishing and also supply tackle and bait (followed by a hearty home cooked lunch). Please book in advance.
Close by is the route of King Richard the Lion Heart which includes many chateaux linked to him including the chateau at Chalus where he died.
Nearby attractions include: Limoges, famous for it's porcelain (50 mins) In Limoges you will also find various public pools an 18 hole golf course, tennis courts and a climbing wall. The town of Rochechouart with an interesting church with a twisted spire and chateau, (20 mins) Oradour sur Glane, a village left exactly as it was when the German army departed after the second world war, the inhabitants having been massacred.
