In its 177miles / 285 kilometres it passes through no less than eight different counties and crosses the border between England and Wales over 20 times.

The farm is not a working one anymore but lovely to see the animals (horses and chickens outside the door). Bring fly spray as we were plagued by them night and day. The kids helped to collect the eggs but weren't given any they are sold somewhere else. I thought this was poor adn the kids were very disappointed. The games room is handy for the older kids. The hot-tub must be booked and was unavailable several days that we were there. The house is very small with timber floors, so attractive but every noise resounded throughout the house. There is no mobile coverage at all as it is in a valley, no broadband either although they said there was. It's a vaery handy location, Caerlon Roman town is a must see and free (bout 20 mins away), the Big Pit was a terrific day out, bring a picnic and it's free too (bout 45 mins away)! Chepstow is a cute town with plenty to do, nice shops, castle, playground. Response: Thank-you for your feedback, we appreciate all feedback, as it helps us to improve and adjust our business to best suit our guests needs. In response I would like to point out a few misconceptions that you have. Firstly the cottages are located within a working farm although we have a tenant farmer leasing the ground off us at the moment. Secondly the hot tub should be booked in advance and unfortunately on a few occasions it was already in use by another family. We only take bookings for 2 hour time slots, so guests, if they are flexible with their time, should be able to use the hot tub on a daily basis if they wish. We are sorry that you experienced problems with flies and had we been made aware of this at the time we could have provided you with the relevant repellent/insecticide. The cottage is advertised as sleeping five so if guests choose to squeeze more people in the cottage than recommended, then the cottage may seem to appear on the 'small side'. Unfortunately there did seem to be to be some Wi-Fi/broadband issues and we apologise for assuming and not checking whether the problem was resolved. Mobile phone signal is somewhat limited in the area which is why we provide a payphone in the utility room for our guests to use, this fact has now been put on the website so it is clear to guests. We are sad to hear that your children were disappointed that they didn't receive any of the eggs that they collected. Our young guests usually keep some of the collected eggs if they express an interest to do so. We pride ourselves in being a very friendly and approachable family who make an effort to ensure that guests have a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. We always stress to guests that if they have any queries or problems to please let us know at the time so we can help. We were surprised and saddened by your trip adviser review as you wrote such lovely comments in our guestbook. You also appeared friendly during the course of your stay and seemed happy and never expressed any disappointments despite several members of the family asking if everything was o.k. Unfortunately on this occasion it seems that there was a lack of communication. As you have said, Maes-y-Felin is a very handy location for exploring and sight seeing and we are pleased that you enjoyed the excellent surrounding areas and attractions. Once again thank you for your review. Best regards, The Whittington Family. |
