Watermeadows is a beautifully restored, traditional Creusoise farmhouse on a 5 acre smallholding on the banks of La Petite Creuse River. With lakes and beaches near by it is an ideal romantic retreat or makes a perfect holiday with family or friends.
The house has been sympathetically resorted and combines its many traditional features with modern comforts and conveniences. There are 3 bedrooms, one en-suite, a large, comfortable living room with a wood-burning stove, dining room and French country kitchen.
In the cooler months, spend time in the cosy living room in front of the wood burning fire and in the summer enjoy the beautiful, private gardens or wander down to river bank. Watermeadows really is an idyllic place to be all year round.

The entrance to Watermeadows opens into the dining room with its large, family dining table and traditional 'Cuisinere' wood-burning range which provides both heat and hot water during the winter months. Off the dining room is the large but cosy living room with comfortable chairs, books, a CD player and TV with a BLUE RAY/DVD/video player. The TV receives a selection of French channels. Apple TV is available on request (stream video from your IPad!). French windows open onto the private garden.
To the other side of the dining room is the kitchen, fully equipped with a range style cooker, microwave and dishwasher. Through the kitchen is the family bathroom with WC, bath and over the bath shower. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms. The master double bedroom has a modern en-suite bathroom and leading off this room are the other two bedrooms, one twin with a basin and the other which can be set up with a king sized bed or two single beds.
Baby bath, travel cot, high chair and other items for young children are available on request.

The private garden contains a patio with table, chairs and a parasol as well as a BBQ. A larger outdoor table is also available for extra seating. A gas BBQ is available at extra cost.
A Fishing license can be obtained locally for a small fee and can be arranged for you on request.
Watermeadows is near the river and is a working smallholding currently with sheep, geese, turkeys and free range chickens in residence. You are responsible for the safety of yourselves and those staying with you.

Watermeadows is a non smoking property but you are welcome to smoke outside.
There is a €55 per week surcharge for wood April-June and September-November, weather depending.
We do ask for a £200 sterling deposit cheque within 14 days of booking to cover possible cancellation and this will also be held as a security deposit until after your departure and an inspection has been completed. This cheque will only be cashed in the event of cancellation within 6 weeks of your intended arrival or to cover the costs of any damages incurred.
The English owner and his family live nearby and will be on hand to deal with any queries you might have during your stay.
The Limousin/Auvergne region
La Creuse is an idyllic rural department well known for its rolling hills, lakes and fishing, known as the 'Lake District of France'. Some of the best carp fishing in Europe is to be found in the regions many lakes many of which have sandy beaches with life guards, cafes, restaurants and water sports.
Gueret is the Department capital with all the facilities of a large town. Limoges, the regional capital, is famous for its porcelain. Nearby places of interest include La Celle Dunoise, one of the most picturesque villages in France, Crozant with its 12th century ruins and stunning gorge immortalised on canvas by Monet, La Souterraine, with its medieval town centre and the delightful town of Aubusson, famous for it tapistries and wall hangings. Also worth visiting is the Loups de Chabrieres, near Gueret, where you can see wolves in a natural environment.
Champeau de Bas lies halfway between the market town of Aigurande and Cheniers. Aigurande holds a market every Friday morning and all the facilities of a small town including a supermarket, post office, petrol station, boulangerie, boucherie and banking facilities.
The town of Cheniers has a local shop, tabac, auberge and post office. The renowned annual brocante is usually held on the second weekend of August. Near by is the Tuilerie de Pouligny where you can visit the museum or have a go at making some pottery.
In the nearby town of La Celle Dunoise you can hire bikes, canoes and horse ride.
Within a fifteen minute drive you can enjoy swimming and water sports at Le Bourg-d'Hem lake.
