The Central England / Cotswolds / Cheltenham / Gloucester region
Cheltenham is surrounded in all directions by countryside that can only be described as quintessentially English: the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the south and east, and to the west the ancient Forest of Dean and the Malvern Hills marking the changing landscapes of the Welsh borderlands.
Essential places to visit are the picturesque Cotswold villages of Bourton-on-the-Water, Bibury, Broadway and Painswick, and the ancient wool towns of Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh, Winchcombe and Cirencester. Gloucester and Tewkesbury with their famous Cathedral and Abbey are nearby and a little further afield but still within easy reach are Bath, Worcester and Oxford. If you don't have your own car you will be able to visit - with varying degrees of ease! - by using public transport services. Guided coach tours are available from Cheltenham during the summer months.
With your own car you are spoilt for choice: you can follow our unique touring routes along the Romantic Road, taking in the very best places to visit in the north and south Cotswolds, or you can head west: across the Severn Plain to the contrasting scenery of Herefordshire and the beautiful Wye Valley where ruined castles and abbeys signify a very different history.
Cheltenham area
Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds the beautiful regency spa town of Cheltenham is home to Music, science and literature festivals - entertainments - leisure - horse racing - Robins football - cricket festival - Wychwood festival - food and drink festival - sport relief.
Stable cottage is near to the new brewery complex. The contemporary design of 'The Brewery' retains the Malt House facade, returning to meet the full height, double-glazed mall frontage to the health and fitness club. This large transparent entrance facade is set back from the street beneath an oversailing canopy roof supported on a regular colonnade of columns.
The retained Cupola Tower forms a focal point within the central area of The Brewery. The two pedestrian entrances from St Margaret's Road and Henrietta Street provide important pedestrian links to the High Street. At The Brewery you can watch a movie at Cineworld, work out at Fitness First and enjoy great food at Chiquito’s, Nando’s, IMMO and Frankie & Benny’s or you can stroll up to the Regency part of town and the fashionable Montpelier and it's beautiful shops, bars and restaurants
Stop Press! 'On your bike '─ Cheltenham trials cycle hire scheme.
A pioneering two-month pilot scheme trialling bikes for rent launches in Cheltenham next week. From Tuesday 1 July, rental bicycles will be available at key locations around the borough. The pilot, similar to the OYBike scheme, allows people to use their mobile phones to set up an account and get a security code to take one of the bikes.
School's out!
Throughout July and August, Cheltenham Borough Council will have a fun-packed programme of sport and play activities on offer for youngsters at various locations around the borough.

It was home from home but such a nice change and so handy for everywhere in town. We hardly used the car! T. J. Jackson, Sunderland , June 2008.
