Home description
Yew Tree Cottage is a delightful secluded haven hidden in the heart of the beautiful Cotswold village of Painswick. Converted ten years ago from an ancient barn it provides lovely comfortable accommodation with a walled garden and an original well in the sitting room.
The spacious farmhouse style kitchen-breakfast-room is a great place for family and friends to relax around the preparation of dinner, or idle over a long late breakfast.
The bedrooms have been set into the roof of the old barn, with some of the original beams remaining. The spaces are charming, though the headroom is limited and the tall may need to be prepared to stoop a little. The first bedroom contains a double bed. The second is larger and has a double bed plus a single bed and a single pull out guest bed with a proper matress if required.
The cottage is approached by a gate and pretty entrance path to its own garden. A small lawn is surrounded by raised flower beds. Stone steps lead up to an elevated patio area, from which you can just about glimpse the spire of the famous Painswick parish church of St.Mary’s. The garden is all enclosed by thick Cotswold stone walls.

The Central England / Cotswolds / Cheltenham / Gloucester region
Painswick is a classic English Cotswold village, set in a great area for horse riding, mountainbiking, golf and walking, with the Cotswold Way passing the gate, and Painswick Beacon and breathtaking views a short uphill ramble away. Within the village take the opportunity to inspect the oldest post office building in England, wander amongst the yew trees and tombstones in the church yard, try out the village stocks, explore the Rococo Gardens at Painswick House, or just take pleasure from the higgledy piggledy village streets and the golden picture postcard cotswold stone buildings around you. Right next door to Yew Tree Cottage stands the Falcon Hotel; a great pub serving excellent food and well kept ales. Take a left out of the gate and only yards away is the what claims to be the oldest bowling green in the country. While away a summers afternoon watching the locals address the serious buisiness of flat green bowls.
Cheltenham / Painswick area
Slightly further afield, but easily accessible by car is the wonderful regency town of Cheltenham, or take a day trip to browse the antique shops of Stow on the Wold, go to the theatre at Stratford on Avon, marvel at the distinguished architecture of historic Bath, get close to nature at the bird park at Slimbridge, or head out to the Forest of Dean. The Cotswolds are packed with unbelievably picturesque villages, places of interest and traditional english country pubs.
Every August Painswick plays host to the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen exhibition, and in July you may be lucky enough to catch the Victorian Street Fair. Not forgetting, of course Cheltenham Gold Cup week in the spring.
