The Central England/Cotswolds region
Deerhurst - In nearby Deerhurst, which is about a mile away, there is St Mary's Church and Odda's Chapel. The date of the foundation of Deerhurst as an Anglo-Saxon minster church is unknown. However, the church was already in existence in 804 – more details can be found on the website. The church is open most days and visitors are welcome.
Combe Hill Nature Reserve - Turn left out of the drive, follow the lane round to the left. At the end of the lane, turn right. At the traffic lights turn right. Turn right at the next traffic lights after The Swan.
Cheltenham (6 miles) www.visitcheltenham.com
Conveniently located, Cheltenham is an ideal base for touring into the Cotswolds, Stratford upon Avon and Bath. Regency town houses, characterised by intricate ironwork balconies and painted stucco facades, line the historic Promenade, squares and terraces. With its award-winning gardens, impressive range of stylish shops and restaurants, and its festivals of horse racing, music and literature.
Tewkesbury (3 miles) www.tewkesbury.cotswolds.info
Tewkesbury is now a thriving town and at the same time is a living museum of architecture and social history spanning over 500 years. The town has such a perfectly preserved medieval character that in 1964 The Council of British Archaeology listed it amongst 57 towns "so splendid and so precious that the ultimate responsibility for them should be of national concern".
Tewkesbury is a pure delight to behold and we have no hesitation in highly recommending it as a 'MUST' place to visit by all tourists visiting the northern Cotswolds Gloucestershire region - an effort that will be amply rewarded in the memories and images you will forever keep and treasure. Tewkesbury is dominated by the 12th-century Abbey.
Gloucester (8 miles) www.thecityofgloucester.co.uk/ www.cotswolds.info/places/gloucester
The City of Gloucester has a unique history from its Roman foundations to its Victorian docklands. Gloucester is a vibrant multicultural city that combines historic architecture with a unique blend of visitor attractions, festivals and entertainment, a collection of high street and specialist shops and a mouth watering array of tea shops, restaurants, wine bars and pubs offer food and drink for all tastes. The city is overlooked by the Cotswolds Hills in the lush Severn Valley and is easily accessible from all corners of the country
The former abbey church founded 1300 years ago is now the cathedral church of the Gloucester Diocese.

"Beautiful and peaceful stay"
An incredible weekend with two girls and a toddler. Cheltenham was a short drive away where we went for Christmas market. The view from the house over the lake was beautiful with the location of the house making it a peaceful stay.
The house was an imaginative build with a lot of the original structure intact. The landlord was helpful, welcoming and kind; we could have stayed there a lot longer!

"Perfect weekend stay"
The Dovecote was the perfect weekend stay. We stayed here with the idea of exploring the Cotswolds but loved the cottage and the setting (not to mention the lovely cake waiting for us on the kitchen table) so much that we decided instead to relax at the cottage most of the weekend! The cottage was also very well equipped - the owner really thought of everything.

Stayed at the Dovecot with my husband and 1 year old daughter. The property itself is beautiful - full of character and very well furnished. The location too is fantastic, right on a duck pond (safely fenced off for little ones) which my daughter loved. The property is a separate building on the owners farm (far away enough from the main building for privacy) - there are horses on the farm which in the evening came up close to the property (still fenced off though) which was lovely.
We felt very well looked after by the owners - plenty of information on local attractions was provided, and best of all, a home made chocolate cake waiting for us when we arrived! Having forgotten our high chair, the owner lent us her own which was much appreciated.
Location wise - we had a car, which was necessary for what we wanted to do - although I think there were probably plenty of walks in the area. We visited Tewkesbury which was VERY close), Cheltenham, Stow-on-the Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water all very easily from our base.
Would definitely stay here again - and probably for a longer period of time.
