Cheltenham and Gloucester form the western gateway to the Cotswolds. The Cotswolds brim with beautiful countryside, cycle trails and long walks from village to village, pub to pub. Known for its many market towns the outstanding Cotswold villages of Winchcombe, Broadway, and Chipping Campden are fine examples and only a short drive from the cottages.
Cheltenham / Charlton Kings area
The elegant Regency Spa Town of Cheltenham is located on the western boundaries of the Cotswolds seven miles east of Gloucester and within easy reach of the M5. It is a bustling popular shopping destination with wonderful regency buildings and beautiful flower beds and hanging baskets.
Once a market town, health promoting salt crystals were discovered near the town in the 19th-century from whence it became a spa town. The medicinal waters can be taken at a number of places in town but most prominantly at Pittville Pump Room.
The Promenade in the centre of town is thought to be one of the most picturesque avenues in the country and is now lined with boutiques, cafes and restaurants.
Charlton Kings is a village about three miles east of central Cheltenham serving as a gateway to the Cotswolds.
