Home description
This beautifully converted stone property offers two spacious adjoining gites with all the modern conveniences, while retaining character features such as exposed stone walls, oak beams and double-height entrance halls. The two houses Les Martinets (up to 6 persons) and Les Hirondelles (up to 4 persons) can be let separately or together by larger groups.
Both gites have large open plan layouts designed perfectly for family holiday life, as well as generous sized bedrooms and bathrooms. They are equipped with everything you may need and open onto private terraces and a shared “play” garden.
The secure walled pool garden is always a favourite with the kids and is equipped with sun-loungers, parasols and lots of inflatable pool toys. The English owner lives opposite in the courtyard providing as much or as little help as you wish, and tending to the gardens and pool for those staying in both properties.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Deux Sevres region
There are varied attractions at all points of the compass – and all within 90 minutes by car. La Vallée des Singes (the valley of the monkeys) is universally popular with all the family and only a 40 minute drive – which still leaves time in the day to return ‘home’ and enjoy the pool in the afternoon. Futuroscope at Poitiers is a 60-minute journey and is better suited to families with kid’s aged 12+ (ish).
Niort (45 mins) is a delightful large market town with all the normal offerings, but if you only do one ‘town day’ during your holiday, La Rochelle (90 mins) is a must. There are fantastic shops, an incredible patisserie, a great ice cream parlour and the old port ringed by seafood restaurants. Then after lunch (if you’ve got the energy), there is the Aquarium right in centre ville.
The seaside at St Palais and glitz of Royan are only 90 minutes by car; distillery tours and a beautiful golf course at Cognac only take 60 minutes and Melle, with its charming centre ville, Friday morning market and the silver mines to visit, is just up the road.
Chef Boutonne area
Chef-Boutonne is a delightful small market town with everything you need if a lazy holiday by the pool is all you seek. There’s a great restaurant/bar, a pizzeria, two supermarkets, three boulangeries, a butcher, a newspaper shop, a wine and fresh coffee shop, playgrounds, a fishing lake (with ducks who love yesterday’s stale bread!) and even a very French ‘cave des vins'.
How to get there
Chef-Boutonne is quick and easy to get to by road or air. There are great road links from all the Brittany and Normandy ferry ports, or visitors can take budget flights to Poitiers or La Rochelle using Ryanair or Easyjet and there are car rental operators at both airports.
