Home description
"Cachette du Roi" is a tastefully renovated traditional stone barn. The property is close to a main departmental link road, is in an ideal area for walking/cycling/exploring and is an excellent touring base with lots of attractions nearby. It is ideally suited to a couple or a small family with older children who want luxury accommodation with tranquillity, a lot of space and privacy being within its own grounds away from main roads.
The ground floor is very spacious with a high pine finished ceiling providing ample room for living and eating, a roof fan/light in the centre of the room provides cooling ventilation if required. Extra daylight is provided to the main living space by a large roof velux window allowing light to pass through from the minstrel gallery feature above. There are three external doors, the double opening out onto a large decked area with furniture, ideal for Al fresco dining , all leading onto the private relaxation areas which are not overlooked.
Accommodation comprises a large kitchen, spacious living/dining area, a bedroom and bathroom on the first floor accessed by an open pine staircase leading to an open walkway with views to the floor below. The kitchen has a stainless worktop/preparation area with twin sinks, ample cupboards, washer and dishwasher. There is a gas cooker, microwave, electric kettle, toaster and an extra large fridge freezer. The living area has satellite tv, dvd, video. The bathroom has a bath, shower, washbasin, wc and bidet. Hot water is via immersion heater. The large bedroom has 2 velux windows and can be arranged as 2 singles or 1 double, additional temporary beds can be used in the bedroom,on the landing area or downstairs. Outside there is ample secure space to park a car and a separate area to park a caravan or motorhome.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Deux Sevres region
Cachette du Roi is situated in the Poitou Charantes region, due to the microclimate in this region, the area gets an exceptional number of sunshine hours per year, making it the second sunniest region in France. Spring comes early, Summer temperatures reaching in excess of 30 degrees, Autumn is still warm enough for a main holiday. There are many places to visit and explore locally, Melle ( silver mines ) , Châteaux, some with fishing lakes, the spectacular "Green Venice" (Marais Poitevin) is only 50 minutes away . Further afield are seaside resorts, La Rochelle, Rochefort. Wine and brandy caves Cognac, St Emillion are just a few of the famous names that can be visited. There are numerous good quality golf courses around Poitiers area about an hour away, The nearest is the municipal golf course at Niort (18 hole) about 40 minutes. Zoorama in the Forest of Chizé contains 600 animals in large enclosures, which can be observed from Hides and ditches.
Chef Boutonne / Loubille area
Set In a hamlet of Loubille in Duex Sevres http://www.loubille.fr/page40.html , with a 50/50 mix of French and English residents. Within 2/3 miles are villages with bar/cafes and bakeries, a mobile baker calls to the properties most days , there is a small general store within 1.5 miles. A selection of large super/hyper markets are available approximately 7/10 miles away. The area is very tranquil and picturesque, very close there are lavoirs (historic washhouses) and goat cheese farms that can be visited. It is an excellent area for walking/cycling/exploring, further afield is Chef Boutonne, which is about 7 miles away. A market town, with Super markets, bars and pharmacies, the Chateau de Javarzay is open to the public, it has a terrific fishing lake. There is a new open-air swimming pool and the local doctor’s surgeries and vets are located in Chef. Traditional weekly markets are held at Melle (Fridays), Lezay (Tuesdays & Saturdays), Chef Boutonne (Saturdays) and Sauze Vaussais (Thursdays) selling seasonal fresh produce and many other items and products.
Spend time relaxing swimming/fishing or sunbathing on the sand/beach at the lake at Les Gours which is just 6 miles away with ample parking. Melle is about 12 miles away and is the site of the oldest silver mine in Europe still open to the public. The mine itself is some 20 km long, and visitors can explore 350 m of it, with guided tours each day, it also boasts a 6 km walk known as the 'Aboretum, Chemin de la Découverte'. This walk passes more than 1000 species of trees and shrubs from the temperate areas of the world, and a collection of over 100 roses. For the more adventurous there are riding stables close by, 6 miles, at Les Ecuries du Breuil in the village of Le Breuil Coiffaud is one of the premier riding stables in the Deux-Sèvres and offers group or individual pony-trekking and horseriding trips in the surrounding countryside.
How to get there
The property is situated between Loubille and Longre off the D737 Melle to Angoleum road approximately equi distant to Melle and Ruffec .There are no public transport services available, Anyone considering staying require their own transport. This could either be booked at any of the cheap flight airports such as Limoge, Poiters or La Rochelle as they are all equi distant, or using your own vehicle for the break. Mileage from St Malo is exactly 250 miles, Caen is 280 miles, Cherbourg 350 miles, Le Havre 350 miles and Calais is around 450 miles. Further details indoors: A separate filtered water unit has been installed to provide excellent drinking water. There is a safe installed, a full set of cooking pans and baking trays are available as well as ample tableware. The satellite TV picks up UK stations. The walls of the building are very thick and along with the tiled floor keep the living area cool in summer, for lets in the colder months there is central heating, fired from a separate boiler room.
Further details outdoors: Parking is next to the property with a large private part grassed courtyard area. There are ample outside loungers/chairs with table and umbrella for use in the courtyard. If you want to take a short break from caravanning or driving the motor home whilst in France touring, there is a large separate space to park the units whilst you enjoy staying in a Gite for little more than what it would cost for a site. Power and water connections for touring unit maintenance are available.

Smoking inside the gite is strictly forbidden, but smokers are welcome to smoke outside on the decking or outside areas. Electric and Gas reasonable usage is included , in colder months some contribution towards the expected extra electric and heating costs is negotiable. Conditions
A none refundable deposit of 25% of the total rental is required on booking, the balance to be paid and cleared no less than six weeks before arrival date. A Refundable breakages/condition deposit of £125 is required and should be paid with the balance , to be refunded within two weeks of your departure (subject to satisfactory property inspection).
