The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Deux Sevres region
Set in the heart of the Poitou-Charentes which is renowned as one of the sunniest regions of France, the farmhouse is an excellent base to discover the multitude of treasures in this charming area if the fancy takes you. With major citites like Niort (50mins), Poitiers (50mins) + Angouleme (50mins) all close on hand and Limoges, La Rochelle, Royan + Cognac not too far afield approx 1hr30mins, there is enough to keep the most active busy, For example, "Futuroscope" the futuristic adventure park at Poitiers with exciting images + scientific wizardry, the "Marais Poitevin" France's equivalent "Venice Verte" a system of endless canals attracting an abundance of wildlife, the "porcelaine" factories at Limoges, the "Brandy + Pineau" distilleries with its cellars + samples to taste at Cognac, the beautiful "Vieux Port" at La Rochelle, aquaruim + all the fantastic seafood restaurants + markets, faboulous beaches at Royan not to mention the zoo at "La Palmyre" with its incredible flamingos.Let alone the actual cities themselves steeped with historical interest with their medieval cathedrales + churches, should I go on.......

Closer to home, lets face it, if the weathers good - you won't budge from the farmhouse - afterall -thats what you've come for....except for the shopping, so excellent supermarkets at Ruffec + Sauzé Vaussais + Chef Boutonne, all closeby, likewise the wonderful local fresh produce markets, Outings for the odd afternoon theres always the Monkey farm at Romagne or the Silver mines at Melle, Confolens is a nice drive out, on the River Vienne its a pretty town and boasts an international folklore festival the middle of August and also does a wonderful show of fireworks for the 14th of July.

Set in the South-West corner of France,the area is a comfortable drive from any of the Channel Ports:- St Malo, Caen, Cherbourg or Calais, Also within easy reach to local airports at Poitiers (Biard), Angloueme from April 2008, Limoges (Bellegrade) and La Rochelle, or to major airports either at Bordeaux or Nantes, EasyJet + RyanAir offering cheaper flights on a regular basis and operating a regular service, Or direct into Paris from anywhere and hop onto the TGV to Poitiers or even Ruffec, Car hire available from Airports or TGV railway stations
