Home description
La Marjolaine is located on the edge of the pretty village of Melleran and is within a 2 minute walk of the local bakers and a fine restaurant/bar. It is quiet and peaceful yet only 5 minutes from two busy market towns which have all the usual shops and other amenities. The larger cities of Poitiers, Angouleme and Niort are all less than an hour of trouble free motoring away and the bustling seaside resort of La Rochelle just over an hour.
The Farmhouse is very large and roomy with one of the bedrooms being on the ground floor making it perfect for the less agile of our guests. Our games barn keeps the more active guests busy and can sometimes be a blessing for our younger guests when they have had too much sun.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Deux Sevres region
Within an hour are the large cities of Niort, Poitiers and Angouleme, all steeped in history with fine medieval castles, boasting a fine array of both modern and traditional shops. Endless choice of fine restaurants and markets.
Go boating in the Marais Poitevin. Spend a day at Futoroscope - a theme park with a twist. Walk amongst the monkeys at the Valley de Singes (monkey valley) p.s. not just for the kids !! The landscape could be described as gentle and rolling and there are endless kilometres of tracks for cycling and walking. Beautiful fauna and flora.
Visit La Rochelle for the day a bustling sea port with its wonderful seafood and individual boutiques and if its too hot visit the aquarium (you may never want to swim in the sea again)
Chef Boutonne / Melleran area
Visit the fairytale Chateau at chef Boutonne and go fishing in its' lake, but be prepared there are some pretty big fish in there.
Just 10 minutes away is the local riding stables where they can accommodate all abilities.
There are traditional weekly markets at Melle, Lezay, Chef Boutonne and Sauze Vaussais selling seasonal fresh produce all within 15 minutes of Melleran.
A choice of good local restaurants serving traditional French cuisine, fresh seafood or even Italian where you can dine al fresco over looking the river at Ruffec.
How to get there
Set in the South-West of France. Your holiday destination is a comfortable drive from any of the channel ports - St Malo, Roscoff, Caen, Cherbourg, Le Harvre or Calais
A great choice of local airports at Poitiers, Limoges, Angouleme and La Rochelle via Easyjet & Ryan Air
Or direct into Paris from anywhere and simply hop onto the TGV to Poitiers or Ruffec a mere 20 minutes away.
Car hire is available from airports, TGV railway stations or very competitively at Super U Supermarkets.
