It is an ideal place for vacations, reunions, weddings, anniversaries, and other special occasions, and whenever you need time to relax and rejuvenate. 3 hours from Paris, 1 hour from Tours, 25 min from Loches. The house is very spacious, perfect for a group, but large enough to allow guests their own quiet space. The house is located on a very large acreage, surrounded by lawns and clusters of pine and fruit trees, a forested area around the perimeter of the property, and even a small, natural creek and pond. Lovingly updated and restored by the artist-owner, this traditional, two-story, stone farmhouse contains a unique blend of old and new including:

- On the ground floor: a large living room with comfortable seating and a fireplace. The fireplace is a perfect place to gather around in on cool days and evenings such as in the fall and winter.

A large dining room with fireplace and with plenty of seating for your group.

A very large, spacious, modernized kitchen with all the amenities plus plenty of counter space. It is perfect for cooking in a group and informal dining around the large country-style table. The kitchen often becomes the heart of guests' stays.

3 bedrooms on the main floor, each that sleeps 2 people, 2 single bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms are suites with their own bathroom.

Original farmhouse's wood-beamed ceilings and many of the original, terracotta tile floors.

Radiant heating in the floors. Halogen track lighting in many of the rooms.

Simple, tasteful furnishings, linens, decor and artwork throughout, including original fresco paintings and other artwork by the artist-owner.

- On the first floor - upstairs: 3 bedrooms, each that sleeps 2 people or 4 people.

One of the bedrooms is a suite with its own bathroom. The bathroom has a spacious, tiled, step-in shower, and a large, modern bathtub with views overlooking the rear garden. A perfect spot to take a quiet soak and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding countryside by day, or by the moon and stars at night.

Similar to the ground floor, radiant heating in the floors and simple, tasteful furnishings, linens, and original fresco paintings and other artwork by the artist-owner.

- The garden and grounds: a large, front terrace, ideal for dining al fresco in the spring, summer and fall in good weather. A wonderful place to enjoy foods purchased from the local farmers' markets such as regional goat cheeses and honeys, seasonal fruits and vegetables, as well as breads from the local village bakery, and a glass of one of the regional wines.

Large, extensive grounds with broad lawn areas and clusters of shade trees.

The shade trees with hammocks are a lovely place to relax, read a book, or take a siesta.

The large lawn areas and grounds are perfect for walking, playing and exploring - a wonderful place for guests of all ages, including children. An outdoor BBQ is provided, perfect for grilling meals including regionally grown vegetables and meats, such as lamb. A 9 meter long swimming pool with counter-current is a perfect place to take a short or long dip, or an invigorating swim.

- The countryside: nearby walking paths are a wonderful way to explore nature and observe working farms - from fields of sunflowers, to chicken, geese, and cattle.

Country roads for bicycling start just at the end of the driveway and are located throughout the region.

Medieval castles, nature preserves, charming villages, farmers' markets, cafes and restaurants that serve regional cuisine, and more. This is a perfect location to visit the region.

The Loire Valley region

The gîte l'Aiguillon is situated on the border of two departments: Indre (36) also named as Berry, and Indre et Loire (37) also named as Touraine. They both are part of the Loire Valley with its many chateaux, historic towns, villages, lakes & rivers.

Touraine is somehow more "developed", remaining authentical. The county of Berry is very well preserved, and offers a variety of natural sites, and both medieval and renaissance architecture, with a special interest for the roman chapels and frescoes.

"Lovely large farmhouse in rural part of Loire Valley"

We had a lovely stay at L'Aiguillon in August.

It is a large farmhouse very tastefully decorated with the owner's beautiful artwork. It is located in a very rural location with a gorgeous large garden and is next door to the house where the owner lives.

The house is very good for a big family holiday, particularly suited to lots of children as there are lots of beds and a great swimming pool.

The layout of the house is a little strange, on the first floor all three bedrooms run into each other and the bathroom is in the centre room so you always have to walk through someone's bedroom to get to a bathroom and it's not as private as it might be.

Downstairs the layout is better as there is a room with an en suite. There is also another suite of three rooms which share a bathroom and another family bathroom. The house sleeps 15, I think if there were that many people the bathroom situation maybe problematic, but with only 9 people we were fine.

The communal rooms are large and spacious, with a big dining table in the dining room. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment and has another nice big table which is nice for evening meals. There is also an outdoor storeroom with an extra fridge and freezer.

The garden is great. There is ample furniture and nice places to sit on both sides of the house, plus some lovely hammocks to relax in. There are fresh fruit trees and Carole, the very friendly and helpful owner, brought us fresh plums from the garden.

As the area is so rural the wifi is satellite based and very slow, it would not be suitable for a working holiday. The appliances run on bottled gas and so are slower to cook than usual appliances.

The nearest town, Chatillon Sur Indre is about 7 miles away, it is a very quiet town, but it does have a handy supermarket and a bakery. The house is only half an hour from Loches a much more bustling town with an interesting medieval citadel.

The house is situated in a particularly rural area of the Loire Valley, so you need to drive for at least an hour to reach most of the more popular chateaux. It is ideal if you are looking for a quiet place off the beaten track and the house is nice enough to spend some days there enjoying the garden and the pool without going off to do touristy things.

There is so much to do in the Loire Valley, a week was definitely not long enough, and I would happily return to the area and this house for another stay!
