About the home

Ski chalet in Chatel. 2 double bedrooms and 1 bunk room. Sleeps 6-10. Ideal for several families to share a wonderful skiing or summer holiday. On the edge of the village with easy access to slopes and village. Garden and off-road parking. Cosy log burner, books, toys and games. Well-equipped kitchen. Dining table extends to seat 8. Bed linen and towels provided. The chalet is cleaned between bookings. Our chalet is 'semi-detached' and is one half of the whole building shown in the photos.

Large open-plan sitting room/dining/kitchen areas. Long comfy sofas around a log fire (logs provided). Well-equipped kitchen and dining areas. Lots of books and music and games to play.
Upstairs ther are 2 double bedrooms and a bunk room. The bunk room has two bunk beds (not side by side as shown but on seperate walls). A pull out mattress is under one of the double beds. There is a sofa bed in one of the double bedrooms. One bath, one shower and two loos. The downstairs corner sofa can convert to a sofa bed.

The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region

Chatel is a resort in the vast Portes du Soleil ski area centred around Avoriaz. This is the largest ski area in the world with over 650km of groomed pistes and even more off piste skiing. Chatel has extensive intermediate skiing with good nursery slopes and several ski schools, including Ecole de Ski Francais and the very good English company, British Alpine Ski School. The British Alpine Ski School costs a bit more but your children won't cry, will learn to ski and will love it! Chatel has 3 black runs, but if you really want a challenge head for Avoriaz and 'do the Wall' or the Olympic run. Mountain restaurants are plentiful and very good. Chatel's snow record is very good (check on the Ski Club of Great Britain website), but despite this they are currently installing extensive state of the art snow-making facilities to guarantee top quality snow throughout the season (In 2011 Chatel was still skiing into the late hot Easter holiday several weeks after the rest of the Portes du Soleil had closed down, even Avoriaz closed before Chatel!). A free bus service runs in the summer and winter seasons and the nearest stop is about 50 metres up the road from our entrance.

Ever thought of a Summer Holiday in the Alps? You should! Hot Mediterranean sun with Alpine breezes and low humidity. The Portes du Soleil is a magnet for mountain bikers and hikers/climbers. Local activities include the 'fantasticable', canyoning, parapenting, white water rafting, pedalos on the lake and the bob-luge. Chatel has its own out-door swimming pool complex. Half an hour away is Lake Geneva, with lakeside swimming pools and beaches, historic castles, villages, zoos and many other attractions. There are a number of good golf courses within driving distance and several local thermal baths/spas for those who deserve a little pampering.

The Chatel area

Chatel has a host of good quality bars and restaurants which cater for a wide range of tastes and budgets. The Feu Rouge offers excellent food as well as having its own micro brewery on site with a passable attempt at bitter; their Bierre Blond is excellent. There are two cinemas but films will be in French. There are several discos and a ten pin bowling alley as well as an outdoor ice rink for those who still have the energy in the evening. For those that don't, pull up a chair, light the fire and have a large glass of your favourite and tell everyone once again about those fabulous powder tracks you put down this afternoon.

Chatel prides itself on retaining its traditional Savoyard Alpine traditions and feel and is most suited to family skiing holidays.
