About the home

Sleeps 8/10. This 4 bedroom chalet is newly built and is both spacious and contemporary in it's design. The chalet is a wonderful place to relax.The whole 'feel' is contemporary and has been specifically designed to create a huge living space including an open plan fully fitted kitchen all with granite worktops. This is a great place to unwind at the end of the day. The living space is complimented with 2 open fireplaces, artwork and a 'gather -around' kitchen island unit.

There is an abundance of restaurants and bars. The Cornettes Hotel is a dining experience and Le Fer Rouge Bar brews its own beer best taken at Happy Hour! Generally eating in the chalet is such a pleasure that you are likely to stay in. The options are yours!

The large balcony is surrounded by the magnificent alpine scenery all with views upto the stunning Dents du Midi.

There are 4 bedrooms and a sofa bed on the landing and so sleeps 10 comfortably. There is 1 en suite bathroom ,1 main bathroom and a shower/WC room as well.

We will provide a welcome pack of tea,coffee,sugar,milk,wine,bread and cheese.

We assume that you can bring your own bed linen and towels but if not convenient we can provide at an extra cost of 15 euros per person per week.

We assume that final day cleaning of the chalet is to be carried out by yourselves but if not convenient we can arrange at an extra cost of €55.Interim cleans can also be arranged at the same cost.

We request a 200 euro key and breakages deposit with final booking which will be refundable 7 days after completion.

Guiding in the area is recommended and can be arranged also but cost is dependant on your exact requirements.

Located in the Portes du Soleil ski area the picturesque and unspoilt town of Chatel is one of 14 connected resorts.Beautiful and picturesque Swiss villages of 'Champery' and 'Les Crosets' sit aside the major French resorts of Avoraiz ,Moraine and Les Gets.This is a huge area for skiing and for summer walking and mountain biking.

Chatel retains its alpine and rural charm as it continues as a traditional farming region. The Lakeside Spas of Evain,Thonon Les Bains and in particular the spectacular Lavez- les-Bains are close by. For those who wish to visit the cultural centres of Geneva,Montreux,Lausanne and Annecy they are all within a 2 hour drive.More locally Chamonix,Thonon,Evian and Yvoire provide scenic delights!

Chalet Clare is just 80 mins from Geneva with full access to the Portes du Soleil ski area with 650km of piste and interconnecting 14 resorts including Chatel, Avoriaz, Torgon, Morgins, Morzine and Les Gets. Chatel is a year long resort, with extensive skiing and boarding in the winter, and walking, climbing, mountain biking, paragliding, kayaking, rafting and fishing in the summer.

Fly cheaply to Geneva Airport (easyjet,bmi,jet2,flybe,ba) and thereafter it is an easy and beautiful car journey of 90 minutes to the Chalet.We can provide clear instructions for your use.We generally book car rental through Holiday Autos on the French side as it is usually £30.00 cheaper for a small car.Ski racks (magnetic)are available at the Chalet for your use if need be.

If others wish to join you later then trains can be taken from Geneva Airport to Aigle.This is a 80 minute train journey around the north of Lake Geneva which is stunning and it takes 30 minutes by car to drive and collect.

The self drive from Calais via Reims,Troyes,Dijon and Geneva is 9 hours with petrol stops and natural breaks.

Fabulous! The photos of this chalet do not do it justice. I have no hesitation in recommending this chalet to either a family or a group- first stayed here with another family- kids shared 2 rooms, adults had the doubles, and again (2009) with a group of "serious skiers". Haven't stayed there in summer yet but intend to.
Arrived to find it clean and with a bottle or two of wine to relax us after the usual stresses of travel. Very comfortable and nothing broken.
With my dodgy back (I enjoy my creature comforts), I was relieved to find comfortable beds, not the usual cheap mattresses with springs pushing through, or hard planks. Some limited headroom in 2 of the bedrooms but you get that everywhere and bedrooms aren't for standing up in are they?!
Downstairs the 2 huge rooms work really well- pairs of really luxurious sofas in both kitchen/diner and lounge areas with log fires to toast the toes. This is a large chalet.
First time I was a little dubious at it being a few hundred meters outside Chatel centre, but with our hire a car (Geneva airport, easy, quick journey) we were better off here with our own private parking as parking in town is not easy to find or cheap! Unless you stay in the smaller more expensive places opposite the ski lifts, you will need a car - even then, walking from there up the hill to the centre is not fun- you could use the bus service to get to the lifts at the head of the valley, but if you are hiring a car, parking is the issue. No such worries here.
The supermarket (1 min drive) is just up the road with a local butcher. The Cornet restaurant in Abondance (3 mins drive) is a must. On the way to Abondance from the chalet there is a good bar on RHS that sells its own brew....with happy hours thankfully as bars in Chatel are v expensive. Recommend you stock up with cheap beer and wine from the supermarket as your first stop!
We have stayed in some truly forgettable places and some very expensive chalets, but this is way, way better than the average- "sophisticated", great for socialising, relaxing and terrific value. Families with toddlers would benefit from a stair gate. Kids can entertain themselves watching a DVD on a laptop in the 2nd lounge area whilst adults drink around the kitchen marble topped island next door!
I really recommend this chalet, but you will need the car.
Should be great for summer activities as well- mountain biking etc and Lake Geneva is a short drive away as well if you fancy watersports. John Goodacre 07950 294244
