The Rhône-Alpes region
Chatel gives you quick access to the ski resorts of the surrounding villages in the Portes du Soleil. The downside is that on weekends many day skiers come from Geneva. The resort is divided into Super Chatel and Linga directly above the village, with the ski bus a few minutes away. Super Châtel is digested by a gondola and slopes close to Torgon and Morgin in Switzerland. The runs are mainly blue and red flagged and therefore ideal for beginners and advanced. For snowboarders there is also a halfpipe.
Linga is more suitable for advanced skiers. This ski area offers the most challenging runs and freeriders will find pristine slopes. The slopes in Avoriaz reach most easily by bus to Pre la Joux to take. From there you go up the lift and make the descent to Plaine Dranse. The next lift and piste run to Les Lindarets and then you stand in connection with Avoriaz. By choosing this route, there is still time to get to Les Gets, the last village of the Portes du Soleil skiing
The family friendly Châtel is one of the nicest villages in the Portes du Soleil. It is an authentic mountain village with a cozy center. Around the core, apartments and hotels. The area is connected with lifts of Avoriaz and Morzine. The surroundings of Châtel is lovely and makes unlike the artificial ski resorts in the Tarentaise cozy. The mountains are extremely high and many trails lead through the woods. Châtel is often called 'Austria in France'. Despite the connection to the huge pistennet of 650 km are in Châtel not just avid road warrior. Families with children, groups and epicureans are welcome guests in Châtel. The many huts in the area are friendly and are known for their quality.
