This is the second visit to ski resort and both times I stayed in chalet's which were run by Darren, and I must say both experiences have been great! The staff are professional, run the chalet well, cook great food, make you feel very welcome from the minute you are collected from the airport and throughout the whole week.
In the chatel you have wifi, tv, lovely stove fire, plenty of hot water, the place is very clean, hot-tub is always ready, the honesty bar is very handy (just take note of what you use & settle bill at end of the week), very cosy, great views of the valley in the mornings!
The village has all that you would need, the bus service is great, apre ski is good fun, nightclub isn't great but the pubs do have music which suited our group.
I am a novice skier, so I found the slopes great, plenty of challenges on and off piste, skiing into Switzerland (doing the loop) was a great day seeing so much of the mountains and small villages nearby.
Overall I loved the week, I recommend staying at the Chalet Lac de Vonnes & I hope to go back once a year at least! All the staff and Darren (Alpinebreaks) who run the chalet were brilliant, they made the holiday special. Can't wait for Jan 2014!

“Have booked to go back next year!”
Recently spent a short break with a group of 7 Ladies skiing, Darren and his team could not have been more helpful and hospitable, Chalet clean and cosy, 4 course lovely dinner, dropped to ski slope of choice in the morning, ski hire to the door ..what more could you ask? We preferred to make our own way back from the slopes (x2 ski buses, but excellent connections, no walking as they drop off right outside the chalet) , 7 minute walk into Chatel town centre. I have booked for next year with my husband and some friends

“Attention to detail and service with a smile!”
Seven young at heart ladies were looking for a chalet destination in Chatel - we found Lac de Vonnes and can't wait to return next year. Darren and his team were good fun, efficient and helpful. The chalet was comfortable and welcoming, equipped with everything we needed. The hot-tub was a lovely touch for the end of a good day out on our skis. Access to and from the ski areas could not have been easier, and some of us even managed to find the "ski-in" route, though this is probably only for the more adventurous. Darren will drop off and pick up, but the local bus service offers you complete independence too, so a great combination. To please seven ladies in one trip is no mean feat - congratulations to Darren and the team at Chalet Lac de Vonnes.
“Fantastic chalet for 2 families with a personal touch”
Chalet Lac de Vonnes is a brilliant chalet set up really well for 2 families in Chatel. The chalet staff Marcella and Peter were lovely and cooked brilliant food for us and our family, complemented with decent wine. The hot tub and table tennis table were a hit, and we never even got round to playing on the wii! Darren (the owner) made us feel very welcome, and couldn't do enough to help us. I did my 1st randonee with Darren which was a great experience. He also skied with us on two days which the kids loved! Darren 's recommendations for particular ski instructors (Mark at White Blamange) and restaurants were also spot on. Overall 10/10 from us - we will be coming back!

“Fantastic Skiing Holiday!!”
This was my first time to Chatel and first time skiing for several years! I could not fault Alpine Breaks....everything from the transfers, ski hire, chalet, food and guided tours of the slopes was amazing! Darren, Peter and Marcella were wonderful hosts and nothing was ever too much for them. The food by Peter and Marcella was fantastic and the Chalet was warm, comfortable and the hot tub was amazing! I had a wonderful time in Chatel and I would definiately go back there with Alpine Breaks in the future.

“Excellent accommodation, location food and hospitality”
Having experienced chalet lac de vonnes in the summer mountain biking, I decided to come back in the winter to ski and I'm pleased to report we had another wonderful trip.
The chalet, food, wine and willingness of Darren, marcella and peter to make it a memorable holiday remaiAccommodationn the same.....the food is delicious and Darren was available all week to arrange transfers, ski passes, hire and guiding, making it an effortless hassle free break.(something that I've not experienced before with other catered ski holidays).
Will definitely be booking again so we can explore more of PDS.
Thanks for having us!

“Fabulous holiday”

Just returned from a fantastic week at Chalet Lac De Vonnes and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a great week's skiing.
We were a group of 8 extended family members including some absolute beginners. From the outset of enquiring about availability, Darren was helpful, friendly and always quick to respond to my emails. The booking process was simple and all the transfers, ski passes and lessons were sorted out prior to our arrival.
When we did arrive we were warmly greeted and treated to simple but fabulous home-cooked dinners with free flowing wine by Peter And Marcella. For the one night that the chalet hosts had off, Darren was more than happy to recommend and book a restaurant in the town for us all.
Nothing was too much trouble for them all and Peter even drove us to the slopes on this day off because Darren was attending a thoroughly enjoyable sounding French licensing symposium!
The chalet itself is is warm and homely with plenty of space for 8 and a superb hot tub! The ski slopes are just 5 mins down the road (which we were driven to and picked up from every day - although the free bus service in Chatel was pretty efficient when required). Techincally you can ski back to very close the rear of the chalet although we didn't do this in the end due to the helpful lifts!
The ski area as a whole is vast and we had great snow conditions to explore at least a fair amount of the 640km that the Portes Du Soliel has to offer - there are quite a few slopes available on just the Chatel ski pass but it's well worth the extra £50 or so for the full area pass.
Overall, I don't have a bad word to say about any of it. It's been 8 years since I last went skiing, but after this experience, It'll be a lot shorter than that until my next trip!!

“Outstanding chalet with direct access to the vast Portes du Soleil region”
From meeting our group of 8 at Geneva Airport to arranging passes, boots and skis nothing was too much trouble. Chalet Lac de Vonnes is very well appointed with all the home comforts. Fantastic food, great wine and excellent hospitality from our hosts. The ski area offers something for experts to beginners and our hosts were always on hand to give advice on the best places to ski. Darren Parker, owner of Alpine Breaks, is on hand to offer guiding for the more experienced/adventurous skier. Highly recommended – I will be back

“Fantasticable !!!”
Just returned from a weeks mountain biking with 5 friends and would like to congratulate Darren and his staff on providing a 5 star service. The chalet is outstanding with all the home comforts you could wish for and views to die for !! The food was fantastic provided by Marcelle, and always had a vegeterian option . The guided mountain bike tours provided by Darren where excellent with special attention placed on providing different options on every route for the varied rider abilities.Safety was always a priority. All in all I think the whole set up is fantastic and will be returning with my family.

“Everything a mountain biker needs”
Having snowboarded in Chatel in 2000, I had no hesitation in returning to this lovely resort for my first MTB group expedition. We entered the 2012 PPDS and so Chatel is an obvious starting point for the event. Darren @ Alpinbreaks was a fantastic (internet) find, as his experience and knowledge as a guide set him apart from other chalet breaks. The property on arrival did not disappoint either. It is well located and comfortably furnished. Food was excellent and varied. It is well suited to a group booking with 4 large separated bedrooms to sleep 8 persons on 2 floor levels. There is a secure basement/bike store workshop area which is ideal for ski equipment / bikes. Great!
Response: Great to have you stay and so glad you all enjoyed your holiday so much. Great to ride with you guys and sure you were blown away by the organisation of the VTT event. Thanks again and all the best, Darren

“As always a very warm welcome”
This is our 3rd visit to chalet Lac de Vonnes. The chalet is situated in a stunning position overlooking the valley. Darren and his staff Peter and Marcelle look after you very well and nothing is too much trouble. They are very happy to take you to the slopes each morning and pick you up in the evening. There is a lovely hot tub where you can relax after an energetic day. If you do not wish to ski each day there are plenty of activities such as snow shoeing, walking or just meeting up for lunch on the slopes. Darren is very happy to join you on the slopes if you wish and show you the best places to ski. The food is excellent and wine flows freely throghout dinner. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels where the standard is not as high as the chalet.

“A Perfect Way to Ski Portes du Soleil”
Darren and his team went out of their way to ensure that this holiday was just wonderful. A lovely comfortable chalet with 5* catering and hosts to match. Ideally situated in Chatel (the town centre is only a short walk away) this holiday was the perfect way to ski the extensive ski runs that make up the Portes du Soleil ski region. I would have no hesitation in recommending Chalet Lac de Vonnes to anyone looking for an excellent value for money holiday. This was not my first visit nor indeed my second or third - it certainly won't be my last.
Wow, just come back from a week staying at the Chalet Lac De Vonnes and it was amazing. Not only was the snow fabuloulous but Peter and Marcella are awesome chalet staff, consequently the place was gleaming and the food both delicious and beautifully presented. The fire was lit every evening and made the chalet even more lovely and welcoming. Very much a home from home. Nothing was too much trouble with the food, even with one of our group hating cheese (can you believe it?), alternative meals were made with no fuss.
Darren wasa great host, 4 girls together on holiday is probably a bit like herding cats, however, he managed us all admirably, picking us up and delivering us to the airport and slopes, even arranging our ski hire. The service before the trip was really good too, passes etc. all arranged and handed out on our first day. He even found a first rate ski instructor for us (Stefan!) and booked us all in.
The ski area is good, we only went with the Super Chatel pass and that was ample for us. The Pre La Joux area is serviced well with chair lifts and good restaurants on the slopes plus an easy run back to the bottom for when you need it!
All in all a great holiday in a lovely chalet with a brilliant host! Thankyou!!

“Best chalet holiday yet!”
Myself and 7 friends (all mid-twenties) had an absolutely fantastic holiday here with Alpine Breaks – the consensus was that it was the best chalet holiday we'd been on. Great value for money with prompt and efficient airport transfers included, ski-guiding (including off-piste) for all abilities and great home-cooked food in generous portions served with good quality wine. Marcella and Peter (our chalet hosts) made us feel at home in every possible way in our cosy chalet, and Darren was very organised, helpful and lots of fun! Added extras such as a slalom competition made the holiday memorable, and we all enjoyed the hot tub and games room!
I would have no hesitation in recommending this chalet, and hope to be back there before too long!

“Top holiday, hope to go back again very soon”
This was simply our best ever ski holiday, which is no mean feat considering we were a 2 family party with 4 young kids (9, 8, 6 & 4 year olds), so were probably not the easiest group to look after...
We were very well looked after by Tracy & Darren right from our initial enquiry and throughout the week. Every day Darren made himself available to help with new rentals, different ski areas, finding instructors, shopping trips and even one medical emergency (!) - really nothing was too much trouble.
In particular we really enjoyed Darren's company on the slopes, as he took the time to show us pistes, forest tracks and off piste areas that we never would have found without him, we really got a great deal of skiing done thanks to his help. And on top of that we had a real ball in the process, especially the kids, who thought he was great fun (maybe he should take up babysitting too?!)
The chalet was very comfortable and well appointed (they kids especially loved the hot tub) and we were very well looked after by Peter and Marcella who cooked fantastic food for us and played the perfect hosts. It was great to have wi fi, iPod dock, TV etc too.
All in all, I don't think we could have topped this holiday overall or improved any aspect (except for not having the medical incident!) and I'd thoroughly recommend Chalet Lac de Vonnes to anyone. Just don't book please when we want to go back ;-)
“Great location, very friendly, amazing hot tub!!!”
6 of us stayed here over new year and we had a great time. The chalet was lovely and the best bit was the hot tub! The food was great too. Transfers, ski passes and equipment were all sorted so it was very easy. We would all defintely recommend Chatel and this chalet!!!

“Lovely comfortable chalet in a great ski area, with a brilliant host!”
Stayed here over New Year, a last minute booking. From the very beginning, Darren, the owner of the chalet, could not have been more helpful. Despite the chalet being excellent value for money, the service from Darren is anything but 'economy'! From many helpful emails pre-departure; to being met by his friendly face in the Geneva arrivals hall and being driven up to Chatel (via a gorgeous bakery for lunch!); to having our ski passes loaded and ready to go on arrival; to taking us out (with his lovely wife Tracy) for a brilliant tour around the brilliant Portes du Soleil (and not laughing too much when my off piste skiing left me face down in a pile of powder!); to organising ski lessons with the best instructors; to letting us share in family fireworks at New Year - Nothing was too much trouble for Darren & Tracy. The chalet isn't really ski in-out. The ski-in is down a bit of a road, then off through fields then a tramp up through deep snow to the bottom of the garden. Having said that, Darren was usually pretty good at driving us the 300m up the road to the piste (I hate walking in ski boots!!) and was great at picking us up at the end of the day (just text him when you're leaving the last slopeside vin chaud stop!) The chalet is simple & comfortable, with a lovely fire, and a GREAT hot tub. The food, whilst not particularly Michelin star level cuisine, was absolutely lovely, and the guys looking after the chalet (Marcella & Peter) were absolutely wonderful, and a real highlight of the stay. The wines with dinner, and the cheese plates after dinner, were brilliant, and particularly the quality of the wines was well in excess of any I've had before on similar ski holidays. The rooms are pleasant, and rustic. Whilst we were hoping for a double bed with ensuite, the quality of our lovely bathroom (just down the corridor), and the extra touches like nice fluffy robes compensated for this. In summary, a lovely mid-level chalet, excellent value for money in an amazing ski area. The real highlight is all the little extras provided by the lovely people who run the chalet.
