Riverside Cottage
About the home
This choclate-box riverside haven is nestled in the scenic Limousin region of France. The garden is bordered by the river Semme which is ideal for fishing, kayaking or bathing in the warmer summer months. The cottage is completely surrounded by a wildlife conservation area, and while there is no other property within sight, guests are only a short walk from all the local amenities in the Roman town of Châteauponsac. The cottage has a patio for dinind AL fresca overlooking the river (fully equipped with BBQ and 6-piece patio furniture and parasole), a brand new 3seater SPA on a quiet tiled terrace facing the river. The cottage is small but really airy and open with 3 large windows and Frence doors and X lge front door , and a 6ft high ceiling , up to a mezzinine , bathroom and master bedroom. The living/dining room is spacious leading to a gererously sized kitchen with a washing machine room and a downstairs toilet. The house is furnished tastfully and comfortably as we the owners stay here regularly , so this house is designed to be a home away from home not just a holiday home, We have owned this cottage for 5 years and have made many many improvements , so to increase overall enjoyment of the property , and we strive to maintain it we do our home , it is painted and varnished and generally cared for with love and attention, as necessery . The garden is attended by a gardener who comes frequently to keep everything in order.
And if the rural seclusion of the cottage isn't quite enough then the surrounding area has plenty more to offer. Try windsurfing at Lac Saint-Pardoux, shopping at Limoges, or join one of the many hiking trails which are just opposite the property. Guests are spoilt for choice with the variety of atmospheric and historically beautiful villages in the area, there are plenty of hidden medieval gems. And in around one hour's drive you can be in the Creuse, the Indre or the Dordogne regions, sampling all their regional gastronomic delights and diverse terrains.
There are 4 mountain bikes for your use and a logfire for cooler evenings in the Spring or Autumn, the spa is opened up as soon as the frost dissapears in the Late Spring , usually and stays open until the Autumn , but is Winterized so as not to get frozen pipes ( happens once , hence new spa )But ask so there will be no dissapointments !!

The Limousin / Auvergne / Haute-Vienne region

Often called 'France profonde', or 'heartland of France', Limousin is a largley undiscovered region, marked by its stunning natural beauty and rich history. Its verdant landscape, ancient chateaux and picturesque villages are only now beginning to receive the attention they deserve.
Historically, the area is famed for some of the best beef farming in the world, its many French Oak Orhcards, as well as being a major timber producing area. The capital of the region, Limoges (only a 30 minute drive from the property), was once a powerful industrial centre, world-renowned for its porcelain.
Limousin is one of the least densely populated regions of France, and is therefore largely unspoilt. Its rolling, wooded landscape is dotted with quaint villages, churches and castles. The area is also a calling point for some of France's major rivers, including the Dordogne, the Vienne, the Creuse and the Cher, and is therefore also well-known for its excellent fishing. Watersport lovers will be spoilt for choice, the gorges, rivers and plentiful lakes mean it is an ideal location.
Summer temperatures in the 'French Lake District' are reliable and regularly exceed 30 degrees C, and while the winters can be long cold, snow is not at all uncommon - a uniquely beautiful sight!
The Chateauponsac area
The local town of Châteauponsac, although small, has plenty of nice surprises. There's a museum, a romanesque church, a few cafes / restaurants, shops and plenty of other useful things such as banks and pertrol stations. In addition, you can find Kayaking lessons, swimming and cyling at the local camping grounds, which also offers organised events during July and August.
Going slightly furhter afield, there's plenty to get your teeth into. The area, with its many hills, lakes and rivers, is consisently brilliant for outdoor family activities such as hiking, cycling and bird watching. But if you want to try something a little different then you can visit Lac Saint-Pardoux. It's only a 15 minute drive from the cottage and here you can indulge in just about every watersport imaginable. The regional capital, Limoges, also has much to offer. You can visit the museums, pay a visit to the aquarium (which boasts over 300 species of fish), eat at the restaurants, or just do some shopping.
Even further afield you can you can visit famous cities such as Perigueux and Angouleme. And remember, the Limousin department is right between the celebrated regions of the Loire and the Dordogne, both of which are only a day trip away.

Very relaxing, peaceful and some very interesting wild life, especially the Bats. You do need transport to visit the supermarket and to see the delightful villages and towns. I hope that I will be returning many more times. The cottage has all that one needs and a very cosy log fire if you visit in the Winter. The property is cared for by a very pleasant lady who lives locally and will point out the good restaurants and places of interest. |

We stayed in this lovely little cottage for a week in Christmas time. I would highly recommend this place for any one. *Good Things - Owners stay here themselves quite often (my impression) - and so the site is very well kept and maintained. Everything is clean. - Everything is there. Only things you need to buy are food. All the utensils and glasses, cups and cutleries are there. - It's a pretty small place, in other words very cozy and friendly. In winter, it is especially important as it never gets cold! Little bit of heat is enough to keep you warm as the space is small. - Plenty of hot water and heat - never felt cold in winter - BBQ & logfire are lovely in winter. (In summer, you can use jacuzzi) - Satellite TV, English books, DVD player, some games...plenty of things to enjoy in the cottage. We were especially impressed with satellite TV - it is like just staying in UK! - NO IKEA furniture in this place. Very cozy and beautiful antique furniture. Bed is so comfy you can easily fall asleep. - Garden is amazing, once you step outside, there is vast garden with small stream! During the day time, you can hear the stream flowing sound, during the night time, you can see enormous stars in the sky. So romantic - Owners speak perfect English and very helpful. - Cottage itself is located in a slightly remote place - very relaxing and quiet Don't worry about noise. There is no one even if you scream! * Bad things - There is internet connection. But it would be nicer if they have wi-fi. Overall, this cottage is very lovely and I so want to go back there in near future. Owners are very kind and helpful. There are plenty of places for shopping (big supermarket, wine shop and pottery shops etc) nearby, and there are lots of small and nice villages around Limousin area. Definitely worth a visit! Response: Thank you for the steller review , there is wi-fi internet access now insread of toggle |

There are many reasons people like to get away , where , when or with whom so , if there is any different arrangements that you may need , let me know and I might be able to accomodate , every thing can be flexible if at all possible , bank to bank transfer is the preferred method of payment in euros , have prices in Pounds as it is easier to budget in one's own currency.
