The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur region
The French Riviera, with its beaches, luxury villas and highstakes gambling, has been the world's favourite playground for more than a century, ever since a French poet gave this strip of land an indelible new name: the Cote d'Azur. Monte Carlo, Nice, Cannes, Cap d'Antibes and Saint-Tropez are synonyms for holiday pleasures both simple and refined. Queen Victoria; Coco Chanel; Picasso; Tobias Smollett; Fitzgerald, Huxley and Maugham: the great, the dubious and the eccentric of every generation have made the Cote d'Azur their own.
Further in land you have the beautifully historic villages of St Paul de Vence where artists have made it their home and show their work to the public, the medieval village of Gourdon perched on the edge of a mountain with commanding views down to the coast and the perfume capital of Grasse.
The famous beaches of Cannes and Theoule-Sur-Mer are a 20-25 minute drive from the villa.
Theoule sur Mer is 5 minutes from the highway A8 exit Mandelieu.
Nestling in the Esterel Massif, Theoule offers you its red rock inlets where you have captivating views of the sea, coast and the mountains. There is a charming little marina, and activities include sea excursions, sailing, diving and much more. There are lovely little restaurants located on and around the beach area.

This wont stop you from having an amazing and relaxing holiday and you will want to return again just to visit all the places you didn't get to explore the first time.
Le Rouret is a traditional Provencal village where there are several local shops including a good-sized supermarket and Michelin star restaurant - Le Clos St Pierre. The locals often play boules on the place and there is a bistro, local produce organic shop and pizza restaurant also within the village.
The larger, livelier village of Valbonne, humming with cafes, restaurants and shops is about five minutes away.
Tennis courts, golf courses, beaches, breath-taking walks all easily accessible. Zip wire fun to be had within the gorge less than 20 minutes drive away. World renowned art gallery, foundation Meaght, and the famed village of St Paul de Vence within short drive.
The area was fairly unknown back in 2000 when we bought the property as everyone was focusing on more well known coastal towns, but we fell in love with the quietness and ease of access Le Rouret gives us to the surrounding towns, beaches, villages and countryside. Its fantastic being so near the hustle and bustle of Nice, Cannes and Antibes to name but a few, but so welcoming to get back to the peace and quiet of the villa to recharge the batteries. Come evening and there is nothing more that we like to do than just have a nice chilled glass of wine and watch the twinkling lights of the coastal towns in the distance.
