The Loire Valley region.

Architectually, the region of Center provides the best examples of Gothic cathedrals anywhere, with the Loire Valley offering the most sumptuous palaces in France.

The Berry, of which Bourges is the capital, produces more than half of the country's fine china. It recently came to fame when some of its porcelain was recovered from the Titanic.

Vouvray, Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé wines all come from vineyards near the river Loire. Some of the best wines are to be found at Bonnezeaux and at Vouvray, where they produce a very good sparkling wine. Consider also trying the remarkably good, local cheeses including crottin de Chavignol and Ste-Maure goat cheeses. Orléans vinegar was also once as famous as Dijon mustard, with more than 200 vinegar-makers and merchants working in the city.

The property is surrounded by countryside . Guided wine tours (in English) can also be arranged locally. Designated cycle routes and nature trails are right on the doorstep with routes that take you through the picturesque villages of the Loire. Fishing, canoeing, horse riding and tennis are all available locally and for keen golfers there is an excellent golf course approx 15 mins away. During the summer months there is in excess of 40 festivals, galas and brocantes held in the area providing lots of local colour. Locally there are plenty of supermarkets, boulangeries, shops, bars and restaurants and a variety of weekly markets close by.

The spacious heart of France, marking the transition between north and south in both climate and landscape. At the centre of the region are timeless, laid back Auvergne and Limousin, with their dramatic natural scenery and outdoor pursuits. To the east and west are Burgundy and the Loire Valley, with their vineyards, gastronomy, history and culture

"Fabulous, spotless holiday rental in wonderful surroundings"

Everything about Gite du Lavande ticked the boxes that we were looking for in a holiday rental, but we did not expect was the wonderful hospitality & welcome from Tony & Ann.
The gite is spotlessy clean and they have taken their knowledge to a different level when considering the needs of holidaymakers. There are safety gates on both top & bottom of the stairs and a suitable selection of toys & games for the children.
We would hope that any other holidaymakers are not put off with the fact that the owners live on site, Tony & Ann are there to be called upon if needed for advice or help, but keep a discrete distance if that is what is preferred. The gite is a credit to the owners who don't realise what a wonderful place they have created.
