C1, Le Petit Pre
About the home
Le Petit Pre apartment is within a quiet residential chalet, beautifully appointed with 3 bedrooms, large terrace and close to village amenities. This lovely apartment is used by our family & is our 'home from home' and is our fifth year of renting. Chateau-d'Oex is a family friendly village which has retained its delightful Swiss character and is in the stunning Gstaad valley.
The summer months are perfect for nature lovers and walkers as well as for families who want to spend days by the open air swimming pool. Cycling is popular in the region and pro cycling training camps also train in the area. Skiing in the mountains here is relaxing and for all abilities. No crowds. No queues!! It is helpful to have a car in order to visit other ski areas in the valley but not essential as the train runs regularly to the ski areas in the valley. The village cable car is a 10 min walk away.
The apartment is a wonderful base for both summer and winter activities for all ages. In summer the large terrace is perfect for relaxing after a days activity.

The Swiss Alps / Vaud/Lake Geneva/Swiss Alps region
Chateau-d'Oex provides a range of holiday experiences and sporting activities and is situated in the stunning Gstaad Valley between the resort of Gstaad and the town of Gruyeres. Thanks to its favourable micro climate Chateau-d'Oex has developed into a hot-air ballooning metropolis. Passenger flights are available throughout the year and an international competition is held in Chateau-d'Oex every January.
Alpine cheese of Etivaz is still made over an open wood fire. In Rougemont,10mins away, many chalets date back a hundred years and bear testimony to the folk art of the region.
Distinguished by the * Family Welcome * quality mark, children are fully catered for in the Pays-d'Enhaut.
Children under 9 yrs old go free on the mountain lifts.
The Chateau-d'Oex area
Chateau-d'Oex is a relaxed village with a selection of cafes, shops, ski rental shops, banks, cinema, tourist office and hospital.
There are wonderful facilities for children, which include a playground with ariel slide, a bowling alley, football pitch, ice rink (tennis courts in the summer ) and outdoor swimming pool.
Chateau-d'Oex is famous for it's annual balloon festival and the fact that the actor David Niven made Chateau-d'Oex his home.
Gstaad hosts the Swiss Open Tennis Tournament, The Cartier Polo as well as the Menuhin Music Festival which is held in various venues in the Gstaad Valley. The Montreaux Jazz Festival is also extremely popular.
Summer:
A beautiful pre-Alpine walking area lies south of Chateau-d'Oex. La Pierreuse, the largest nature conservation area in western Switzerland contains rock areas, forests, abundant flora and flat moors, The Pays-d'Enhaut offers a large network of marked mountain biking trails along the tracks of the 1997 world championships for amateurs as well as the more experienced. A section of the 2009 Tour de France took part in the area. One of Switzerland's most beautiful river rafting routes lies between the wild Vanel and Gerignoz gorges. There is also canyoning, hydrospeed and canoeing/kayaking.
Activities include:
Mountain biking, cycling, swimming ,tennis, bowling, horse riding, golf ( Gstaad ), white water rafting, and 'wellness' centres.
Winter:
Chateau-d'Oex is a small family ski resort where children under 9 ski free. The slopes are well maintained and accessed by a cable car from the village. The slopes are on a high plareau above Chateau-d'Oex and provide 12km of easy slopes, 5km of medium slopes and 6km of difficult slopes. There is a delightful beginners slope in the village with a small, friendly family run cafe. There are 60 lifts in The Alpes Vaudoise region and 130 lifts in the Super Ski Region. Found this property after considerable on-line searching. Most other properties in the region were either in remote locations and unsuitable for anyone with impaired mobility or outrageously expensive. Le Petit Pre seemed to 'tick all the boxes' and in reality turned out ideal in every way:- - a comfortable and well equiped apartment. - ground floor with access to sunny garden - easy parking - close to amenities and public transport |
