About the home
Lovely white cottage with split level garden based in a small hamlet. The house is rustic yet modern, large enough for hide and seek, but cosy enough for wine, games and a snuggle. A large lounge with numerous sofas, and a dining table that will comfortably seat 10. Two double rooms, a twin room, and a room set in the eves, that will sleep 3 children, (but has been known to sleep 7 next to each other).
All modern facilities inside, including washing machine and tumble dryer. Smaller garden by the back door, ideal for dining out below the stars (and with no streetlights you can see thousands on a clear night), and also for ball games like wall ball and cricket. At the back of the house, the larger garden with heated 8 x 4m swimming pool, little one's swing set, and room for football, badminton, cricket, and for the really energetic a 10 foot trampoline with protective net. Set on a country lane with no through traffic, so the kids can play and cycle outside safely.Ideal for those wanting to get away from it all and read a good book, but with so much to do in the surrounding area, fantastic for those wanting an activity based holiday.
Although rurally situated, amenities are within easy reach by car at Charroux (10 mins) for local shops (including an English goods selling shop), or Civray (15mins) where there are restaurants, supermarkets, banks, pharmacy. There are also local markets in both towns.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vienne region

Climate: Said to be the second sunniest in France behind the south. Long summers with mild conditions in spring and autumn.
Beautiful rolling countryside, and from June to August stunning fields of enormous sunflowers. Little traffic on the quiet country roads.
There are significant towns however, the property sits in a triangle surrounded by Angouleme, Limoges and Poitiers all within an hour.
The Chatain area
For daily shopping and your delicious french bread, there are boulangeries in Benest (6km), and Charroux (9km).
For full on supermarkets, Savigne/Civray has two substantial supermarkets that provide everything from barbecue coals to shampoo to fishing equipment.
For retail therapy ("shopping"), Angouleme has lovely shops and the easiest parking. Poitiers is best for antiques, and Limoges is famous for it's porcelain, apparently more than 50% of all porcelain made in France comes from Limoges.
For entertainment, There is so much to do, here is a selection:-
Vallee des singes, monkey valley, at Romangne. 30mins. V good. A full day out, and great to see thousands of monkeys in as near a natural habitat as you will ever see.
Park Animalier colline enchantee, @ Hiesse, especially good if you have young children, 15-20 mins. South of us.
Planete des Crocodiles, about an hour drive, north east, indoors. At Civaux, also a nice indoor pool there.
Near chauvingny, Geant de la Ciel. (Bird Show in castle ruins), the town has good shops and a very nice creperie (pancakes).
Same direction, and similar distance Dienne, tree adventure, good for all ages! And for the men and women should they fancy a tarzan moment. Though a more adventurous tree experince at fontaine le comte (near Poitiers)
Great kids park near Limoges, Park Bellevue, also an aquarium there as well.
La Rochelle, and the coast... Beaches Aquarium shops etc... A long day out!
Nautilis swimming pool 55 mins, near angouleme with slides (at certain times of year only indoor slide is open). Lake for swimming, called Grand Prairie, playground outside town. Restaurants and shops.
Themepark Futuroscope, numerous IMAX's. Fun for all, if you go take a change of clothes or swimming cozzies and towels. Open till 11 show at end of day worth staying for. Free for kids under 5. Height restrictions on some rides. Fantastic day out for children and adults
Confolens is 20 mins away, Kayak on the river. Outdoor pool with fun slides and diving boards. Great music festival usually the second week in august. "From steel bands on street corners to flamenco in bars, Confolens's International Folkore Festival offers a chance to travel the world in a day. The picturesque town is packed with international performers and some 300,000 visitors during the colourful celebrations."
St Martin L'ars, great kiddie lake, swimming beach. About 30 mins drive
Aire de rejaillant at- Ruffec, part of the river where kids can paddle in safety, or swim if they choose. Cool under the trees on a really hot day, take water shoes, rent a kayak too if you fancy.
Velorail is well worth a go can be picked up from Romazierre or Confolens. Really good fun, quite hard work!
St Macoux- other side of Civray, nice swimming lake with slide.
Iles de peyre. About 40 mins. Towards poitiers on N10, good kiddie pool with slide, electric boats, mini golf, take picnic!
Cognac, with all it's distilleries and the ( and a fabulous park) is about 1 hour 20 mins away.
La Rochelle and the beach are about 1hour 40mins away, a long day but worth it, if it's a sunny one.
For those that stay in early April, the volcanic region of the Auvergne with some good skiing is only 2 and a half hours away.
