About the home
A unique three bedroom holiday home in a stunningly gorgeous ecological location overlooking the city, only 5 mins away by bus. Big, beautiful, and set amongst flowering plants and tropical fruit trees in one acre of lush hillside (a hot spot for bird watching!), you’re unlikely to find a villa with more spectacular views. Not situated in a tourist resort, there's no pool, but our holiday home has loads more to offer.
The largest and best value-for-money villa on the island sleeps six in comfort but is just as cosy for two. Get a taste of real St Lucian community life here. In several homes nearby live the extended family of the villa’s owner, so there is no shortage of thoughtful attention! Julie, the villa's manager comes from a long line of superb cooks, and her husband Hidden's wicked West Indian rum punch will have you panting for more! They will delight you with delicious creole dishes and fabulous cocktails on the veranda as the sun goes down over the Caribbean Sea. The view really knocks your socks off. Sheer magic!

The Castries region

A sea-view is about the only view most holiday homes on the island will have on offer. Our villa Frangipani overlooks the city of Castries, a spectacular outlook both by day and by night. Our stunning views encompass the town's surrounding hills, the harbour mouth, the beach and small airport near the Vigie peninsula, the several bays and inlets forged by the Caribbean sea, and as an added bonus, the island of Martinique whilst doing the washing up! Some of the city's attractions are the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (the largest church in the Caribbean) adjacent to the pretty Derek Walcott Square (named for our island's second of its two Nobel Prize winners), the red-roofed early Victorian market, and the duty free shopping malls near the deep water harbour where cruise ships with their thousands of day tripper tourists dock daily. The weather is consistently tropical and fantastic, and the villa Frangipani, set on a scenic eastern Castries hillside is the perfect venue for exploring the charms of the island by land or sea.
The Chase Gardens area
Situated in the heart of a semi-rural neighbourhood on the very edge of the capital, members of the community are mostly related and have a sense of responsibility to each other. This caring hospitality is extended to Frangipani guests, but there is no intrusion on privacy.
Far from the madding crowd but within easy reach of restaurants, clubs and shopping, the villa is just 1 mile to the centre of town. It is also 1 mile to the nearest beach on the Vigie peninsula - a 20 or 30 minute walk, or a very short transport journey through the most picturesque landscapes of eastern Castries. It is not necessary to hire a car. Little 12-seater public transport buses are frequent and loads of fun, and the bus stop is just yards from the villa. Your patronage will benefit the environment and the local people.

My family (my wife and I, our two children aged 8 and 6 and my parents in law) stayed at Villa Frangipani in April 2011. Expectations were high – and were met completely in Villa Frangipani. Before we went, Dylyn had been very helpful and responsive. When we arrived, we had a wonderful stay. We particularly loved sitting and eating on the veranda and enjoying the view and lying in the hammock. Hidden and his family (who live opposite and look after guests) welcomed us very warmly - helping us with a barbeque, bringing fresh mangoes and coconuts, fixing the telephone, lending us his own mobile phone, accompanying us on our first drive into Castries etc. He couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, and went well beyond the call of duty. As Dylyn promised, Hidden's wife Julie is an excellent cook and we enjoyed three delicious and good value meals - trying out new local foods which Hidden had recommended (including curried goat) and being served on the verandah. Much better than the more expensive offerings in restaurants! Our son also played with Hidden and Julie's son of a similar age. Paulie picked us up from the airport, and on Dylyn's recommendation we rented a seven seater 4WD car - much chepaer than the UK - from Sandra which was delivered to us first thing the next morning. Allow enough time at the beginning to check the car and how everything works - for example while children's car seats were provided, local people do not really use them so do not have huge knowledge of how to fit them. We used the car most days as we were keen to explore the island. We had a good time at beaches at Vigie, East Winds, Gros Islet and Pigeon Point (this latter one was particularly good, especially for swimming with young children). We spent a fun day at the cricket near Gros Islet watching the West Indies. We went to Rainforest Sky Rides (expensive but very interesting) and the nearby folk museum (very good) and also explored Castries Market and Marigot Bay. We were struck by how warm and welcoming people were wherever we went – from buying bread in the shop to the larger towns and tourist attractions. We have one complaint - the weather was unseasonably wet! Even on the hotter days the villa was cool with the through breezes. We were glad to stay in a comfortable villa, not an expensive resort with little to do except watch the rain. If we ever get an opportunity to come back to St Lucia – we'd return to Villa Frangipani without hesitation. |

''Great place to stay with fantastic views, day or night.
The balcony is fantastic for evening meals and just to sit and relax.
The locals are very friendly and all those recommended by Dylyn (the owner) were very accomodating.
The villa provides an excellent base to explore the island, and to savour the real character of St Lucia and is very affordable.
Access to the villa is via steep roads so a car is advisable, just watch out for other vehicles as the roads are narrow.
The over view and information provided prior and during our visit was also very helpful.
My wife and I would have no reservations is recommending a stay at Villa Frangipani.

''I spent a week with 3 other friends in June, and absolutely no regret to have chosen the villa Frangipani!
It's such a happy house, big, colorful, with a huge balcony where we have a great view!
Beverly was great with us, she helped us for some activities we wanted to do, showed us around, especially the best beaches, and also cooked for us! We went for a fancy and expensive diner one night in a restaurant...Beverly was better! And I'm really picky about food!
I'll always remember those vacations, not only for saint Lucia which is a beautiful island, but also for the villa and Bev, it was a big + to have a friendly person to take care of us!

A lovely house with probably the best view in St Lucia! The house was breezy and cool, Beverley's cooking was good, the rooms were comfie and it was nice to turn up and some shopping had been done and a nice jug of julie mango juice and dinner awaited us! Like some of the other reviewers said, it was nice at the end of the day to just sit in the verandah or better yet the hammock and watch the harbour views till sunset I think Chase Gardens has more charm than Rodney Bay with its faux pretentiousness ever will! The beaches were gorgeous. All in all a lovely holiday.

Earlier this year, during the first 2 weeks of March, I spend some marvellous days again on the island nation of Saint Lucia, in the Caribbean. To say that I had a memorable time would really be an understatement. The Saint Lucians are delightful in their attitudes, and treated me in kind and helpful ways. Their behaviour truly complimented the exotic beauty of their island.
When I return, I hope that I'll be lucky enough to stay again at The Villa Frangipani, for my days there were exceedingly pleasant, and my nights wonderful.
I shall complement my review by including essential stanzas from my poem, The Villa Frangipani, Saint Lucia, which I composed after my first joyful interlude in that beautiful haven on the hill. The poem is dedicated to the owners of The Villa.
The Villa Frangipani, on a hill
In sweet Saint Lucia – under azure skies! –
Offers such pleasures, you might have your fill.
From its veranda, all that meet your eyes
Bring constant joy and peace … and sure surprise.
It seems so fine above the harbour where
The Caribbean Sea basks in the sun,
And birds and blooms in beauty, here and there,
Regale your senses till the good day’s done –
As brilliant stars proclaim more tropic fun.
Inviting on the hill in daytime, white,
That Villa can inform all those who roam
To sweet Saint Lucia: If you want delight –
And striking points of view – you'd make me home.
Grandly, I wait, mere miles beyond the foam!
So if you take a ship, or come by plane,
The Villa Frangipani’s there for you –
Both under sunny skies, and in the rain,
You'll feel contented with the things you do,
As bright stars fill your night till skies turn blue.
Those ethereal memories that you'll find,
In your sweet sojourn on this lovely isle,
Will be so etched in grandeur in your mind –
In scintillating rainbows! – You'll just smile,
And dream of Frangipani for a while….
The Villa Frangipani, through the year,
Is a delightful haven you can share.
