The Costa de Lisboa/Lisbon region
Twenty minutes from the centre of Lisbon, driving south, the ochre and blue unspoiled beaches on the coastline open on to a vast Atlantic horizon. Verging on the white sands of the Atlantic coast is Aroeira, the Lisbon Country Club's 350 hectares golf estate.
In terms of gastronomy, the Southern part of Lisbon is an area of the most freshly caught fish with an abundance of sea food. The customary high quality of the catch justifies that certain species are often associated with these places: whiting, swordfish, sea Bass, daurade and clams from Sesimbra and red mullet and crabs from Setúbal. Cheese made from ewe's milk in Azeitão and wines produced in the region of Palmela, with special emphasis on "Moscatel" and "Periquita" varieties, are also internationally renowned for their high quality.
Charneca da Caparica
Aroeira is situated in a natural reserve "Arrabida Fossil", a geologic formation composed of sedimentary rocks with about 15 millions years, rich in fossil material, one of the most important geologic places in Europe.
Aroeira is the largest golf resort in Lisbon Area with two 18 holes (72 par) golf courses.
Providing the perfect environment for the whole family to have a relaxing or action-packed stay, clubhouse with restaurant, snack-bar and bar, jogging paths, a golf shop, golf school, driving range, swimming pool, 4 tennis courts., Spa & health care and shopping centre.
Set in a 350 hectare estate very close to Lisbon with a long stretch of beach with 30km of white sand, Aroeira has become one of the most famous golf resort in the country and is even named the Wentworth of Lisbon. The resort boasts two 18-hole par 72 golf courses:
Aroeira 1: Designed by Frank Pennink, the Aroeira course skilfully blends the needs of a championship golf course and the harmonious surroundings of natural landscape. The course, which is played for a typical Par 72, provides a variety of game situations; players may use almost all their clubs. On the first round, hole number 8 stands out besides the villa, with its Par 3 for 190 metres and a green with a remarkable inclination.
Aroeira 2: Designed by the architect Donald Steel, with 18 long holes that contour 6 large lakes, Aroeira's second championship golf course was inaugurated in April 2000. Aroeira II was built to European Tour recommendation standards in order to host major international golf events.

"Delightful Villa, well equipped, and in a nice quiet area - particularly thrilled with large pool."
Large delightful villa, with enormous grounds for children to play in. Villa was well equipped, with little touches such as buckets and spades for the little ones being very helpful. Table Tennis and Pool Table got well used, and the terrific large swimming pool was always in use. Our welcome was perfect and the cleaning/gardening/etc over the 2 weeks was unobtrusive and good. One local restaurant (at golf club) was well priced and good - all others needed transport. My two tips would be to ensure that you have transport to get to the busy beach (it is walkable, but a big hill on the way back), and dont pre-book surfing, as the local waves are fun but not really for surfing on.

We stayed in Villa Aroeira 9 for 1 week in June. As a group of 11 its always hard to keep everyone happy but here we had it all - table tennis, pool table and BBQ for the boys, a huge swimming pool and beautiful gardens for the girls, and more than enough space for 11 plus more!! The interior feels luxurious and roomy and the surrounding area, albeit a tad rural, had plenty to offer. The beach is about a ten minute walk, but be warned - the sea is rather cold!
The villa is about a 20 minute drive from Lisbon so there's plenty to do close by. I would recommend hiring a car as most things (except the beach and supermarket) are a short drive away. There are some lovely beaches up in Cascais, Estoril is particularly nice. Or if you fancy some sightseeing, head to Sintra to see the Castle of the Moors (but be prepared to walk up hill!).
We'd all like to say a big thank you to Yves who greeted us on the first night (very late as our plane was delayed) and who told us about all the great restaurants nearby. He was a great host and made our stay even better.
We'd definitely like to return again!!
