Coastguards Cottage
About the home

The Charmouth area
This charming seaside village lies on the Jurassic Coast and is known as the "gateway" to the World Heritage Site. It is known for having one of the best fossil beaches in Europe and has the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre on the seafront. The Centre has various events throughout the year ie. fossil hunting days or weekends including information on ways of finding fossils; plankton trawls and rock pool rambles. There are also two beach cafes and an interesting vintage clothing shop. It has a relaxed pace of life with a safe clean beach which is also great for fishing. The village has a reliable bus service, cafes, restaurants, family pubs, takeaways, grocers, butchers, pharmacy, doctors, dentist, a bowling green, tennis courts, a putting green and a safe playground with playing fields for younger people which makes it an ideal location for a family break. The area also has peaceful cliff top walks.
Across the bay you can see the harbour town of Lyme Regis where Turner and Whistler both painted and Jane Austen wrote Persuasion. The town also featured in The French Lieutenant's Woman. This bustling seaside resort hosts the famous Jazz Festival, Carnival and Regatta Week and the Lifeboat Week. It is also known for it's shabby chic shops, modern restaurants, golf course, cinema, theatre and boat fishing trips.
The market town of Bridport with it's larger shops and supermarkets are only a ten minute drive away.

The cottage is comfortable and ideally located for the beach and small town where you can find al day-to-day requirements at reasonable prices. The beaches are clean and fishing for mackerel off the prom is relatively easy. Hopefully, the coast path will be re-routed for 2013, because there is currently only one walkers path out of Charmouth and this heads north into the hills. |
