The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Bouches-du-Rhone region
The Cote d'azur stretches along the warmest coastline of France from Provence to the Italian border.
The beaches from pebble to fine sand are well maintained and some 'private' offer extra facilities, bars and restaurants for a whole days comfortable seaside lounging! Gastronomy is at its best catering for some of the most prestigious clients but offering many choices of restaurant all along the coast.
The bustling cities of Cannes and Nice contrast to the small and still authentic perched villages on the hilltops, and other smaller towns offer quiet corners with dotted villas and yet still most interesting town centres alive with artistic history and tradition.
Further north the terraced hillsides lead up into cooler parts and the Alps can be seen towering above. Hiking and walking as well as many watersports on the lakes will be amongst activities here away from the busier coasts.
Bouches-du-Rhône capital city is Marseille, culturally rich and influenced strongly by the Mediterranean climate. The region is known for its sandy beaches and cliff tops - perfect for walking holidays.
Inland the villages are overflowing with Roman and Gaulish history with ruins, fountains, Roman baths and monuments galore. The most famous of painters such as Paul Cezanne spent many years here, in love with the pinkish light that bathes everything with warmth, from the Mount Saint Victoire to the perched villages further north.
The Charleval area
On the doorstep of the Luberon natural park, approx 7 km from the renowned golf course of Pont-Royal, within easy reach of La Roque-d’Anthéron with its piano festival and Abbaye de Silvacane.
Approximately 30 km from the fabulous city of Aix en Provence with its buzzing pavement cafés and cobbled streets lined with restaurants. 40 km from St Rémy de Provence.
With the Luberon as a backdrop and on the banks of the Durance river, the charming town of Charleval stands proudly in the foothills of the Chaine des Côtes. Charleval boasts a beautiful renaissance Château which overlooks the village. Enjoy the many hikes available in the area and take time to take in the views over the Luberon, the Alpilles and the Durance valley.

Lourmarin. 20 km. Listed as "one of the most beautiful villages in France", the village nestles amidst vineyards, olive groves and almond trees. Lively in the summer with its numerous cafe terraces, restaurants and shops.
Cadenet. 15 km. Bustling and authentic Provencal village set against red-rock cliffs and boasting a Medieval château with splendid view of the Durance river, the Luberon, the Sainte-Victoire and the Alpilles mountain.
Pertuis. 30 km. Delightful town with impressive architecture and historic past, narrow and colourful streets, tastefully restored old houses as well as vaulted arches and many fountains... Gateway to the Lubéron.
La Tour d’Aigues. 30 km. Pleasant medieval village on the banks of the River Eze, with magnificent Renaissance castle complete with surrounding moat.

Le Parc des Labyrinthes Géants, La Roque d'Anthéron. 6 km. Maze. A 4-hectare field and one of the largest permanent mazes in the world with over 9000 laurel trees and 6 km of paths. Ideal for a family day out.
Golf de Pont Royal en Provence, Mallemort/Provence. 7 km. Golf course. 18 holes Par 72 - 6037m. Superb course designed by Seve Ballesteros. Tactical but fun too, with lovely views.
Le Village des Automates, St Cannat. 15 km. Theme park taking you to the magical world of automats. Also adventure park and petting farm.
FURTHER AFIELD:
Aix en Provence. 30 km. Stunningly beautiful and vibrant city, distinctively Provencal, with sunny squares filled with cafes, broad avenues lined with gigantic plane trees and tempting restaurants, and a substantial historical centre with elegant shops and attractive houses.
Apt. 40 km. Charming market town, typical of Provence, renowned for its local products. You will enjoy exploring its beautiful old centre protected by walled buildings and with long narrow streets.
La Bastide-des-Jourdans. 40 km. Little fortified and picturesque village with medieval remains, shops along its main street and a couple of good cafés.
St Rémy de Provence. 40 km. As picturesque and Provencal as can be, with narrow winding streets, shady squares, fantastically old fountains, elegant shops, art galleries and plenty of bars and restaurants. The village and surrounding countryside has inspired many artists including Van Gogh who produced more than 150 paintings of the area. Also birthplace of Nostradamus.
