** Doctor Douglas Hyde interpretative Centre - Frenchpark, Co. Roscommon - 9km from Ballaghaderreen.
Douglas Hyde was the first President of Ireland and the co-founder of the Conradh Na Gaeilge. The interpretative, exhibition and information centre is dedicated to him and is house in the church, where his father was rector. The churchyard contains the remains of the late President - there is no cover charge.
** The Michael Coleman Irish Music Centre - Gurteen, Sligo approx 10km from Ballaghaderreen.
Michael Coleman was a world renowned fiddle player. He is said to be the most influential traditional musician of the twentieth century. The centre has an audio-visual display, music / gift shop, 150 seater theatre, traditional cottage, picnic area, tea/coffee. During the summer there are 3 traditional music shows weekly. Open Mon- Sat 10am - 5pm.
** Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle, Co. Roscommon
The park comprises of 65 acres of mixed woodland, open park land and a lake with a number of islands. Facilities include boat trips, woodland walks and trails, children's play area,. Adventure kingdom and boda borg, tree top canopy walk, visitor centre and café. Various fees apply to the attraction also. Open all year round (winter 3 days).
** Knock Shrine - From Ballaghaderreen take the N5 to Charlestown, after 16km take the N17 to Galway, Knock is 14km from this junction.

The area has many quiet and peaceful roads for walking and cycling enthusiasts. The rugged landscapes of Mayo/Roscommon/Sligo are a maze of spectacular walkways, peaceful hills and panoramic views of all Connaught. This is an important area for wild birds. The Lung River (1 mile away) is an anglers paradise with its rivers and lakes and probably offers the best Coarse Fishing waters in Ireland. It is excellent for bream, trout, roach, rudd, perch, tench, eel, pike and hybrids. The Lung Valley is a developed stretch of water with easy access, off the road safe parking, nature walks, slipways for boats, fishing stands etc. There is a disabled fishing stand on the Lung River and Lough Gara Lake for physically impaired anglers.
