Villa Helios is only 4 minutes walk from the sandy beaches, shops, and tavernas in Almyrida, set above a small, quiet access road on the top of a cliff with a few neighbouring villas. “Helios” means “Sun” in Greek, and this villa definitely lives up to its name.
Completed in December 2007, this very spacious villa has been beautifully designed to incorporate the highest building standards with luxurious modern comforts and facilities. The villa easily stays cool during Crete’s long, hot summers thanks to thick walls, high vaulted white wood ceilings, tilt and turn windows which take advantage of the sea breezes.
Another clever design feature is that none of the bedrooms share adjoining walls which gives total peace and privacy to each guest.

Local stone has been used for the wide stone staircase, the boundary walls, and for the flag stone paving on the front and pool terraces, local wood has been used for the open beamed ceilings, pergolas, doors, windows and shutters, terracotta tiles have been used for the balconies and upstairs terraces, and marble has been used for the window and balcony ledges.and air-conditioning units in the bedrooms. For the cooler nights at the start and end of the season, there is a glass-fronted Scandinavian wood burning stove, and the a/c units also double up as heaters.
No expense has been spared by the artistic and creative owners who have endeavoured to ensure that your stay at Villa Helios is as relaxing and as comfortable as possible. Every piece of furniture and all of the appliances are of the highest quality including: a state-of-the-art Pioneer surround sound stereo system with a DVD player, satellite TV and the facility to listen to your MP3 player; stainless steel Aeg and Bosch appliances, built-in oven and extractor fan and a coffee maker; matching cream wood built-in floor to ceiling wardrobes and interior doors; and the sumptuous Bo Concept couches.
The fabulous modern bathrooms are in a class of their own with individual mosaic tiles, shaving points, and the single and double washbasins that are set in their tiled vanity shelves.
Further details outdoors:
As you will probably want to spend a lot of time outdoors to enjoy the lovely views and great weather, there is an ample supply of garden furniture on the terraces and around the pool area including; dining tables and chairs, a BBQ, umbrellas and sun-beds.
All around the property there are traditional clay pots and colourful flowerbeds that have been planted with an array of typical Mediterranean flowers, bushes and trees.
The Crete region
The heart of the village of Almyrida is only 300m from Villa Helios, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer.
Lining the beach are 4 excellent tavernas, 9 café/bars, 2 bakeries, a wonderful jewellery shop, 5 mini-markets, 3 gift shops, 1 clothes shop, and an off-license. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans.
The Chania / Almyrida area
A few minutes by car from Villa Helios, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi.
For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 35 minutes away by car.

We stayed at Villa Helios in Almiryda, with our two young girls(3 and 5) and a family of friends (two boys, 5 and 7), we had a great time, everything was as described, and even better! The village and the beach of Almiryda are just great, relax, people are friendly, and the food in the restaurant has a great ratio quality/price. The villa is only a few minutes, about 5 or 7 min walk from the beach, and taht is walking slow with kids and sometimes a stroller! the villa was perfect, really comfortable for two families, nice pool and terrasse, adequate kitchen, etc... I highly recommend renting this villa, and Almiryda! |
