Almirida Corner House
About the home
Almirida Corner house is a newly constructed property in Almirida. It faces onto olive groves and is next door to a small complex of 8 apartments. It is located in its own quiet garden area, away from the road. Yet the beach and tavernas are only a 3 minute walk. Flat level area no steep hills or gradients.
Almirida is 20 km east of Chania, it is a pretty little seaside village that has two gently shelving sandy beaches fringed by waterside tavernas and a small fishing harbour with quiet rocky coves. The sea is beautifully clear, a marvellous mix of colours from deep aquamarine to a pastel turquoise.
The village now has several high quality tavernas, 3 or 4 Mini-Markets as well as a bakers, an Internet café, jewellery shops and a number of quite trendy and sophisticated bars, a couple of which have access to global sport channels. Mountain bikes can be hired locally. On the beach you can rent sun beds and hire windsurfer boards and water sports equipment.
We may put the house for sale from 2013/14. Contact owners for information.

A decade ago Almirida was a fishing village and a weekend watering hole for local Greeks from Chania. Times change of course and Almirida has since grown into a small resort with a number of villas, apartments and a few hotels, two of which are of a very high international standard, we can vouch ourselves for their quality.
Curiously enough, the Greeks still come at weekends, the fishermen still fish and the waterside tavernas still have a laid back unhurried atmosphere where time is of no consequence and you can sit for hours lingering over a meal.
The rolling wooded countryside behind Almirida is probably the most beautiful in Crete and is a walkers paradise, especially in April and May when spring flowers carpet the landscape in colourful abandon. If you are looking for full-on club nightlife then Almirida is not the place to choose, however for a quiet relaxing holiday by the sea, with good food and drink and a pleasant environment, it certainly takes some beating.
Further details
To book the property we ask for a non-refundable deposit of £150 payable at time of booking to reserve the property. The final balance is due 8 weeks before departure. We are happy for clients to make a "provisional" booking/enquiry, during which we will hold their slot whilst they check for flights and car hire. This booking we will hold for 7 days, after which the deposit should be forwarded.
Please note: The house will cater comfortably for up to 6 guests. Some recent enquiries we have had have been asked, "how much is the property for 2 occupants". It is the same cost. We would like to advise that the pricing for our house is per week to a maximum occupany of 1 - 6. Some rentals may suggest floor space as a additional sleeping area, ie 1 bedroom but sleeps 4, we do not. Three comfortable bedrooms sleeping 2 in each.
Bookings are normally on a weekly basis. However, we will try to accommodate bookings for part weeks ie 10 or 12 days on a pro-rata basis.
The key to the property will be made available on arrival. Our (English) property manager, who lives in the area will prepare the property before your arrival and will be on hand to assist our guests during your stay.
There will be a comprehensive information folder for guests to read, this will outline details of local facilites and amenities as well as info on Crete and Greece itself. The folder will also contain instruction booklets for all the applicances and electrical goods.
We would appreciate if guests would not smoke inside the house - Outside on the terrace or patio is fine.
We may put the property for Sale from 2013/14. Due to possible overseas move. Contact owners if you have interest.
Thank you.
Conditions
On final payment we also ask for a £150 fully refundable security deposit in case of wilful damage, breakages or excessive cleaning. The odd broken glass or plate is not a problem.
The Crete region

Crete is the largest of the Greek islands, one of the most popular holiday destinations in Greece and famous for the islanders' warm hospitality, dramatic mountains, beautiful beaches and historic sites it has a population of just over half a million people and is the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean. It is some 256km long and varying between 15 and 30km wide, with majestic mountains rising in its centre. It has a great variety of landscapes and is a land of brilliant colours and this is the reason many call Crete ‘small Greece’.
The Chania / Almyrida area
Almirida is a former fishing village with a golden, blue flag beach and numerous shops and tavernas lining the picturesque cove and small harbour. It borders a gorgeous blue bay with charming villages like Kera, Plaka, Kambia and Kokkino Horio. The resort straggles along a picturesque, sheltered bay, forming a line of open beachfront tavernas, little supermarkets, gift shops and jewellers. The waterfront itself is shaped at one end as a safe, shallow cove with soft sand where children can happily splash around, opening out at the other end to a long stretch of beach with water-sports for the more adventurous.
Behind the sea front, houses and apartments with colourful gardens stretch back towards the hills and often snow-capped mountains beyond. Families and couples alike love Almirida for its relaxed ambience with a choice of places to eat, drink, stroll and while away the time. Surrounding area is level and easy walking, no steep hills.

Flights to Crete arrive at CHANIA (nearest Almirida) and HERAKLION. Flights are more frequent during thesummer months. EasyJet fly to Crete as do a number of holiday charters. Many carriers fly on Tuesday and Wednesdays - so you may get cheaper flights on weekdays, rather than Sat-Sat - We are happy to fit bookings to suit our guests.
Travel by road to ALMIRIDA from CHANIA is 30 minutes or so, from HERAKLION approximately 90 minutes.
Taxi fares vary, but should be around 35 Euros from Chania and 90 Euros from Heraklion. The price of a two-way taxi fare from Heraklion is almost the same as a weeks car hire. Hiring a car is probably the best option, and you will then have if it to travel around during your stay.
Hire car rates are approximately 220 Euros per week, with a 2 week hire around 380 Euros. We use "Anna Cars" We have found their cars of a high standard and their service has been excellent.
