About the home
Villa Iannis is a fantastic 5 min flat walk to the beach, tavernas and restaurants which line the waterfront in the bay. Its a holiday which will suit all - its ideal for families, friends and romantic breaks for couples and also ideal for the older generation looking for a relaxing break, or those possibly looking to rent both our villas as they sit on a large plot. Both pools are approximately 3 metres by 6 metres.
Villa Iannis is unique in its design – the bedrooms are on the lower floors (for coolness in the Summer) and the Living/Dining and cooking area on the top floor. The villa is quiet and secluded and yet close enough to the village.
This Villa will sleep up to a maximum of 6 persons. There is a doubled bedded room, plus there is another large double bedroom (complete with full en-suite facilities) and a pair of bunk beds for additional sleeping perfect for the family. It is also possible to sleep on the sofa bed in the living room should the need arise.

Iannis shares a large plot with its sister villa Vavara - they are perfect for renting together should you wish for 2 families perhaps, friends or weddings! They are in a large plot so have enough space and some privacy from one another. Both have private pools and they share a wild garden in the front of the property. In this garden there are lemon and olive trees and guests are welcome to pick the lemons perhaps for a gin and tonic! There is a large patio area and car parking port. The villas are surrounded externally by some fields and olive groves and some times you can see goats in the nearby fields. The plot/gardens make the villas very attractive. The villas are particularly beautiful as they stand in their own plot with no buildings immediately next to them.
Please ensure care is taken in the patio area surround the pool, it will inevitably get wet so we would recommend caution and no running.
Please be careful in the patio area around the pool and do not run. Its impossible for the tiles not to get wet so we do ask for caution.

BookThe Crete region
Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and has over 300 days of sunshine per year. It is an almost year round suitable destination therefore and can be very warm still almost up until the end of the year. The most beautiful months are possibly May and September/October when it is a little quieter and the intense heat of August has cleared! However, Crete is a reasonably windy island which makes July and August much more bearable.
Being the largest Greek island it has a lot to offer from the East to the West and North and South. They differ slightly and the North and West tend to have slightly more rainfall and are perhaps a little greener. There are lots of places to visit in Crete and it can be pleasant to stay in various parts travelling and staying a little in each. Crete roadwise is easy to get around and the roads are particularly good compared to some Greek islands.
The Chania / Almyrida area
Situated in the Crete region of Greece, Chania is a 40 min drive away and is a top tourist destination and is known for many things including the Venetian Harbour, the old port, its narrow shopping streets and waterfront restaurants, museums, markets, churches and wide selection of shops.
Heraklion is a 2 hour drive away but can be a pleasant costal trip to the villas. The airport at Heraklion is busier than the nearer airport in Chania.
Almyrida is a small village which is probably amost perfect as a holiday destination. It has a sandy beach, about 10/15 tavernas/restaurants and still under the primarily control of the Greeks. Buildings are restricted height wise so that the views are rarely spoiled. Some European resorts have been taken over by the English culture and I am pleased to say that Almyrida has a little English amongst the traditional Greek. Therefore whilst you can find a bar which may have sport you can equally find many Greek tavernas which do not have sport - so possibly a village suited to everyone, including children who can play on the beach front whilst the parents enjoy a relaxing seat at a cafe or taverna ensuring that they are safe. The beach is gently shelving too making it another perfect situation for younger children.
We have a welcome pack and there are places of interest recommended upon arrival. Our agents can also help.
Rethymnon is a nice town to visit which is on the way towards Heraklion - it is not dissimilar to Chania.
Almyrida is a small bay and the beach is sandy. The walk into the sea is quite shallow and long which makes it ideal for families/children. The tavernas/restaurants run along side the beach and the other side of the road. It is nice for families with children to let the children run and play on the beach on front of them whilst the parents have a well deserved cool drink sitting by them watching them play.
Almyrida is a small version of its nearby village Kalives. It is worth taking a trip into Kalives because it does have a bigger supermarket and some lovely restaurants/tavernas. It is possible to walk along the coast to Kalives but it can be very hot at certain times of the year and will take a good 30 mins or so, perhaps a little less.
Plaka is up the road from Almyrida a small little place but with a few good restaurants. On the way you will pass the Sunset Restaurant in which you should take time to watch the sun go down behind the mountains.
In Plaka if you are missing sport on your holiday you will find a bar which does show a lot and they may help should you ask for something particular!
Almyrida has a lot of tavernas/restaurants and will cater for everyone particularly children. There is a French cafe which has a vast choice of breakfasts including pancakes which are popular with the children!
Almyrida does not have a nightclub. It does have a couple of late bars however so it suitable for teenagers too, the closest nightclub would be in Kalives.

There are 2 airports, Chania and Heraklion. Chania is about a 45 minute drive and Heraklion is a 2 hour drive which is costal and a reasonable drive particularly during the day light hours.
Hiring a car is simple in Crete with many good value car hire companies working from both airports. Autoclub and Flisvos are the main two in the area - do have a search on line for the best deal from other providers however. If you are staying for just a week then you may not need a car but we do recommend it for 2 weeks or if you are perhaps coming from Heraklion which makes the rental worthwhile and there are larger supermarkets in Chania you may wish to visit as well of course as Chania itself.

We visited this wonderful villa in 2008 and are staying here again this year, in 2012 because our holiday 4 years ago was that amazing, we couldn't stay away! We got an early flight from Gatwick... more |

My wife and I decided to return to Crete after a break of many years and booked the slightly larger Villa Vavara next to Villa Lannis. Booking arrangements were profesional and at the same time friendly and very helpful. Our flight from Glasgow to Heraklion arrived at 23:45 and we had hired a car on-line. Almirida is a two hour drive from the airport and in the dark was not exactly a high spot of the holiday but the directions were good. The villa is in an ideal location with a short walk in to the village where there are several very nice tavernas. The swimming pool was really too cold to even try it will probably be fine in the hotter months but late September it was not warm enough. The villa was comfortable but the ground floor toilet was not really suited to an over six foot male. There was no safe and this is a recommendation. The management company were excellent and when there was a flood in the toilet they arranged a plumber promptly. We found them very helpful and ready to advise on local ammenities. We really enjoyed our holiday and being allowed to check out later was a real benefit. |
