Villa | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Villa Afrati, sitting above the coastal road to the village of Kokkino Chorio, enjoys the most stunning views across Souda Bay and the White Mountains. Built and furnished to the very highest standards, we are delighted to offer this villa to our clients looking for an extra touch of luxury in an amazing location.
Truly a feast for the eyes, the villa, creamy-pink from the locally quarried stone, set amongst an emerald green lawn, the turquoise blue private swimming pool framed by the darker blue of the Mediterranean sea surrounded by the silver olive groves and white capped mountains. Inside, the villa has been painted a cool white contrasting perfectly with warm terracotta coloured floor tiles. Furnished with beautiful wooden furniture and wrought iron light fittings from local craftsmen, the villa retains its traditional Cretan character but at the same time providing all the modern comforts you would expect.
The villa is spread over two floors, and you enter from the raised covered terrace with feature stone arch over- looking the pool and gardens.

The Crete region
Villa Afrati is located in a quiet rural location midway between several traditional villages, the closest being Kokkino Chorio and Plaka, with Almyrida Beach just a few minute`s drive away.
The village of Plaka has many amenities including a well stocked mini market, wi fi cafes, a hairdresser and petrol station. The village square itself is charming, with several traditional style tavernas and cafes, (and even a small Italian restaurant!) where you can enjoy an authentic home cooked Cretan meal or after dinner coffee in walking distance to Afrataki.
Wander around the sleepy village of Kokkino Horio for a touch of history, the village was used in the film "Zorba the Greek" and many of the village houses remain unchanged. Caves used in WWII as army bunkers are secreted under the hillside and worth a visit, as is the famous glass blowing workshop where you can watch recycled glass being blown in the traditional manner into amazingly beautiful products including lampshades, ornaments, decanters, plates and bowls.
For a day on the beach, just minutes by car or a gentle 25 minute downhill stroll from Afrataki, visit the lovely village of Almyrida. Set around a crescent shaped sandy beach with calm shallow waters, (ideal for younger children) there is a surprisingly good selection of tavernas, cafes and shops as well as a helpful pharmacy, ATM cash point, bowling alley and spa as well as a diving school and non motorised water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers, catamarans and pedalo boats.
For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania with its beautiful Venetian harbor and old town is only 30 minutes away by car
